So you are fishing a cove with lots of grass and bass on beds. You get about two weeks of good action, then out of nowhere there are carp and gar all over, and the bass seemed to have vacated. Do you give up on this area for the rest of the spawn or go back when the next Full moon gives the next wave a push? Curious how other approach this scenario. In my experience, it seems that once the gar and carp show up, the bass move elsewhere and so should you.

Gar eat bass and carp annoy the carp out of them. Find new water

you can still fish with carp around, but if they are thick the bass move out in my experience. Gar = bad news

I'd step back to to a point, or the front of the cove, and fish the creek channel. If that doesnt work, i'd move around to new water.

I has this exact thing happen to me this year. Fish were shallow in a cove and was catching them good. The next weekend I go back and carp have taken over the bank and really muddied it up. I backed out to the edge of the mud and caught fish. About 2 weeks the later the carp thinned out and the bass came back to the bank like before. THEN, this past weekend I only caught a few little fish. The far had moved in and were everywhere. So I'd say they will withstand the carp, but the far run them off.

I don't think gar/carp bother bass as much as they bother us. I have caught bass off of beds multiple times while gar were swimming right around with them

This^ Come to Conroe and find out. Sure at time those Carp can mess up the water, but I think SOME of the Bass could care less when they are locked in on a Bed, feeding, whatever. I believe you would find better numbers elsewhere though.

I have caught bass on beds this year in the back of a very narrow canal with carp and gar in very close quarters but I have never seen any gar here that are big enough to eat much of a bass.

We all know that all fish don't spawn at once and it's been my experience that bass will hang around up shallow after they have spawned. I caught 2 fish over 6 lbs this weekend in less than 3 feet of water with gar all around that were no doubt done spawning. The majority of the gar that you see up shallow spawning are spotted and long nose gar, neither of the two are making a meal of the bass I want to catch.

That was the first thing I did, with no luck so had me wondering. I probably did not fish the deeper water correctly or in the right spot, but thought I would get some opinions.

I've seen big schools of Gar push bass off of their beds... they will leave the area and come back after the Gar vacate the area... And you can tell the Bass are definitely getting harassed by the Gar when you see them break the surface to evade being eaten... An easy way to tell the difference between a Bass fleeing attack and a bass feeding on the surface is that typically you wont get any bites on top when the Bass are only fleeing... And to respond about the areas with beds being vacated after a couple weeks of spawning... that just means that wave of spawners is done... but that doesn't mean ALL the fish in the lake are done! Look somewhere else and you may find some more beds
