The Bass guys have done a fine job in protecting their resources,.....I would love to see Catfishing get as big as Bass fishing...as of right now Catfish aren't on the priority list in many areas..... TPWD being one! The bigger catfishing gets the more resources will be used in research, stocking, protecting the fish.

Why don't you ask TPWD how many tagged flatties were turned in by noodlers on Palestine last year? I think the game warden I talked to in late July said six tags had been turned in out of 200.

Change the creel and size limits if you're worried about conservation, not the harvest methods. That way you can appease everyone. You guys that cry and moan about how another man catches a fish need to find something else to do with your time. Not all of us can sit on the bank for 12 hours with 15 rods set out and wait for one to swim by.

Only thoughts I really have on this matter are pretty simple... Any man who has the guts to wade into murky water, stick his hand into a hole, and pull out a giant cat has earned the right to do whatever he pleases with that cat. Noodling is the rawest, most primitive form of what we call "fishing"! It is something native Americans have done for centuries along with running forms of trotlines. It's pretty easy to find a spot from a boat or on the bank and then wait in relative comfort to catch a fish. I challenge anyone who knocks noodling to give it a shot and see if they can cut the mustard so to speak. I personally have never noodled but given the opportunity to go with an experienced guy would love to try it. I have however run trotlines the way my family has for many years... Waist to neck deep water, no waders, no flotation, just me walking out to run the lines and pulling the cats in by hand with no boat of any kind. I would challenge many of you that down a trotliner to give that a try as well. In short I say let them noodle and do what they wish with their catch! I have great respect for someone who does things the primitive way! On top of that studies will be done with their fish and it is overseen by biologists, people who I'm certain know a great deal more about how harvesting big cats impacts a fishery than any of us.

Just some food for thought, thanks!
Justin

Since i'm eyeballs deep in this thread I might as well....

First....its not EASY to find a "spot" on the bank or boat to catch a "trophy" fish....sure people get lucky and catch a big fish now and then, but those that don't know what they are doing don't have much success.....

Second....99.9% of people don't walk their trotlines out on foot. And IMO that doesn't make it any more of a sport than putting it out by boat.

3rd.....The "PRIMITIVE WAY" isn't much of an excuse to me.....if you haven't noticed times have changed bud, there are a few more people in this world now! If we did everything the "Primitive Way" I don't think we'd be in very good shape!

Read my earlier post in this thread...im not against noodling...but right now Tx is way behind on protecting the trophy blues. If you don't think the big blues can be hurt in a fishery just go ask someone along the Ohio river right now eeks Why don't we learn from others mistakes before it happens to us. Again, im not against only "noodling" im against irresponsible fishing and IMO that's what this tournament is!!!

I'm gonna miss her....

Do peeps noodle only during the spawn (when the fish are in their homes and close to shore) or do they noodle all year round?

This is a good read. The people that want to noodle, read this article. Once read, come back and tell me why this state is wrong and you are right. AGAIN, just because you CAN do something, doesn't mean you should. It seems most of you think guys are against you taking trophies. That is not the case. This is about protection of the future stock.

TP&W is also against this law and never endorsed it.

deer seasons and harvest limits vary county to county in Texas based on the info collected by TPWD. Neighboring counties can have different rules. To argue that a state that far away should have any bearing on Texas is a reach and is quite stupid.

Comparing whitetail to yellow cats is stupid.

Again, TP&W is against this law.

No. What's stupid is trying to use another states rules to justify your argument.

TPWD will not spend the money on this unless we speak up about it!! There is allot going on with this other than discussing it on the forums! Contact your reps and your local biologist and let them know there is an interest!!! Like I have said before, the biologists, wardens etc do pay attention what is going on on here. They just don't chime in very often.

I personally am more concerned with the blues over yellows on this topic cause of the bag limit and the time of year it is most commonly done.
Is it legal to keep blues noodling at all in Oklahoma?
