Has anyone consistently caught hybrids or stripers on spinners? What is a good color and size?

Thanks!

Dennis Christian and Beltonbill, routinely post on this subject. Mepps Spinners. I like a silver bluefox. Match the hatch, what ever the size of the shad they are eating, this is the proper spinner size, silver spinner (same color as shad)

Search dennis Christian on here, read his mepps story...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I don't have a boat... but can the slab spinners work for bank fishing too?

I've caught a boat load of stripers at tawakoni on 1/4oz. White rooster tails. As far as from the bank I don't know. I catch those fish each year near the holiday hills area.

I have pulled my yak up on a bank several times so that I did not have to paddle against the wind to launch a inline spinner at them. The only thing from the bank is that the fish do not usually stay put for very long. White, and Chaurtruse slabs 3/4 oz with a spinner above it work well.

1abufan: My fishing now is on lakes from a boat, but I have caught good catches of white bass below lake dams (Texoma once in 1975, Livingston in the 1970s and Eagle Mountain in the 1970s) using a #2 silver Mepps plain Aglia spinner. Not sure they had hybrids or stripers below the dams back then. I do catch hybrids and stripers in with the whites out on the lakes with Mepps #s 2,3, and 4.

Slabs are for vertical jigging. If you are fishing from the bank, you need a long rod in the 8-9 foot range and a weighted bobber with a fluke. You could also use a big crank bait but you'll hang up some trying to reel a deep runner in onto a point from the bank.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

i just bought a few materials to make my own ... hopefully better made spinners. --

does everyone think dressed hooks are better than a naked one?

i still need to paint the body, maybe leave it and see if it catches anything.....

No. I always buy plain Mepps and , if I can only find dressed Mepps, I cut the hair off the hook. I normally leave the red spaghetti on the shank, but have removed it when fish prefer slightly smaller profile.

here is the finished products!! assorted weights. trying to get them a little heavier than 1/4oz so i can cast them further.

i was able to go fishing today, and i had 2 fish, and 1 got away.. i didnt take a pic of the bigger one because i already took a picture of the first one. (it was brutal 20mph. i just wanted to test and see my new creations would catch anything... and they did!)

RussPrater "Bass Commander" is witness to the other fish i caught haha. nice to meet you today Rus!!
