Question: What do you do with the stinger if you catch a ray and cut the stinger off? Do you guys normally throw it back into the water or dispose of it a certain way to avoid further accidents, possibly by someone else?

If I am on a pier I will throw it in the nearest trash can, if I am surf fishing I throw it in the back of my truck. Wouldn't want to throw it back in the water and step on that bad boy later.

New Gulf, I know how painful and slow healing those types of leg injuries are. I got 2nd and 3rd degree burns on both my legs 5 years ago in the same spot your wound is located. I could not walk for months and it took a few years for the pain to go away. I feel for you, because there is nothing more painful than a lower leg injury. Glad you are doing better.

I know a guy who managed to shoot himself about the same spot with a .45. It healed much faster and left a much smaller scar....
Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

Think I'll stick with the dangers on a slippery jetty and give up surf fishing.

I wonder how high up the leg the big ones usually reach with their stinger. You know, in other words do most stingray leggings go up high enough?
