I recently moved to the fort worth area from Indiana, and I'm really interested in doing some gar fishing. I'm a really big alligator gar fanatic, and really want to utilize my opportunities in Texas to finally catch one. Regardless, I would like to do some gar fishing of any kind here. I live really close to the Clear Fork Trinity in Benbrook, and was wondering if anybody knew of the potential for gar fishing in this part of the river. Has anybody caught any species of gar in this stretch of the river, or would I just be wasting my time here? Really interested in any gar fishing advice or tips in this area from the locals.

I'm not picky. I'd just love to get some gar in hand again.

Like Duck said...the only gar you'll be able to reliably catch in the DFW area will be Longnose Gar. There might be a few Agar still in the DFW Trinity, but they are probably very old, very few, and not reproducing. There are some very good sized Longnose Gar just about everywhere in the DFW Trinity. Lake Worth has a ton of them as well. Don't forget the other rough fish such as Carp, Buffalo. They are all over the place in the DFW area. p.s. Hire duckhuntr35 if you want to tangle with some Alligator Gar.

If you are a C&R fishermen, PM me and I will let you know. Curious to hear where you have seen longnose on Benbrook. I've never seen one despite fishing there years and years. I can't imagine why they would not be in there though.

oops....sorry. Thanks. I meant Lake Worth not Benbrook. Also...Eagle Mountain has a ton of LNG as well. Also used to fish behind the dam at Eagle Mountain (Vances Camp) and catch some huge LNG.

Is funny and, as far as I can tell, true about the garless Benbrook.

Yep, W and EM are chock full of Long nose! Used to be Alligator Gar in both too, but no more or very very few.
