^^^^^ I can understand it in that situation. Rather than chasing a fish up and down the creek and interrupting everybody else trying to fish, I can see beefing up a bit so that you can horse them in a little easier. I just can't see a hybrid snapping a flyline mid-fight on its own, but for the reasons above and getting wrapped up I can see an instance where you either have to cut or break off your flyline

I only use an #8 for bass on Lake Fork.

In Texas I use a 5 weight 9 ft rod.

I have lake records with Hybrids, catfish, carp, gar, ect..... All on a #5

I have only used my 8# one time and that was at the tourny on Fork. Then the barracuda broke it a few weeks later in Key West.

I have a $65 bass pro combo I bought 6 years ago. It landed 300 Sandies just today. All my hybrids have been caught on that too, to 10 lbs. no reason to spend a stupid amount of money on a fly setup for creek fishing.

If u put 12 lb leader on a #5 and don't play that fish out, yes, u will snap your rod in half. The barracuda broke my rod after all the backing have been pulled out and I didn't point at the fish. When the rod was bent and ran out of backing the rod snapped into 7 pieces. Was a 4 piece.

You just have to play the fish out and not pull hard while working with lighter rods.

And Carey's flies work and that's a big part in this kind of fishing. Thanks again for today. We caught a good number on those flies of yours.

big cheese. Catching a sandbass on a flyrod would be a kick. I watched a few guys catch a few earlier this week and if I can tweek what I have learned in my flyfishing adventures, I may try one of my methods on these great little fish. If it works, it shoule be able to keep up with any spin fisherman.

Thank you everyone for sharing info on the areas and lures/jigs you're using. I was in East texas on the Neches 2 weeks ago fishing with family and it was good stuff. Going to try to hit Hickory tonight or this weekend.

Fished this evening for about 1.5 hours. Still a lot of fish in the creek. Most of all the fish I caught were small males. Hopefully we get a good rain tomorrow to push some more fish up the creek. A lot of people out fishing, most I've seen all year.
