EXACTLY. I can't believe a fireman would bash another fireman. My father was a fireman for 30yrs and it was like a big family. EVEN THE VOLUNTEERS!!! Maybe you are a real fireman, not in my opinion, but you are a REEEAL *** TOO!!!!

In my line of work I have been around fireman alot. They are a very close bunch of folks. I too am confused by the bashing. Whether Looney is a "real" firefighter or a volunteer he is certified nevertheless. Volunteer firefighters go out and do what the "real" firefighters do for free and with less equipment in alot of situations. If it weren't for volunteer firefighters alot of small communities would be very unprotected. I am a full time police officer and take my hat off to the reserve police officers and volunteer firefighters who put it on the line for free.

After surfing the site for the past couple of days.....some of his posts have rubbed me the wrong way.

Hey I got nothing at all bad to say for volunteer firemen. A lot of my good friends in Terrell are volunteer firemen and you can't ever go wrong when getting that bunch of guys together for anything from dove hunting trip to a BBQ contest. My dad is a full time fireman for Dallas and a volunteer for Terrell, so I have been around these guys my whole life. He is not wrong in saying that the guys that are not full time firemen are usually the most "Gung Ho" about getting the word out. Although there is absolutly nothing wrong with this, it is sometimes amusing to notice that the guys that have been in the fire department forever full time usually drive very non-descrip vehicles to the call when the 100% volunteers come flying in with a pickup covered in lights, sirens, and decals. Hey man if I was a volunteer I would do the same. You can't tell me you wouldn't like to have wig-wags on your truck.

For the record, I'm a paid fireman for the City of Irving. Been there a little over ten years. Yall are right though, the volunteers do it to help out, not for a check. A lot of guys I work with live in rural areas within 3hrs of DFW, and most of them volunteer for their communities.
