have had heck getting them fish to bite since fall , I toss a bait pretty regularly at lunch down there .
during the late fall and winter I quit going because I couldn't get a bite from nothing ! around march I started to visit again for short periods of nothing as well .well the other day I managed a little Mohawk right up against the bank upstream
so needless to say I am visiting a bit more , today I went down with tandem 1/32 oz jigs and dropped them under a float . I wasn't getting bit at all and the bass fella was tossin a crank bait. he hooks up by the concrete and low and behold its a female white crappie ! well I ask him wasn't you just right there close when it hit ...he says yep and I think I have had a few slap at it also today . he says it was right off the tree in the water right there ? I said tree ? you mean the lawn chair that's upside down un the bottom ?
he says yep right there close in 3 to 4 fow ....ketchn sez hmmmmmm
maybe a quick drag and nevermind the twitchin the float gig ? I pitch out and before I kan start my retrieve the float goes down ...I hook a fish for a second and think hmmmm again
that sure seemed to be a crappie to me ....toss some more nothing ...
start draggin the float kinda quickly and you guessed it ...
KABOOM !
managed 4 hook ups lost 2 landed 2 ....
and I present big male white crappie of the day
my babies are back home it seems ....

Sounds like you had to work for em. Nice Fish. You are right. Ever since winter the fish have been very hard to find. Banker and his buddies have gotten some pretty good numbers on Canyon Lake these past few weeks. Still hit and miss on the big three Guadalupe River lakes.

yeah we had to travel a bunch to stay on em since the fall
the home boyz wasn't cooperating much
but the good news is that the local spots are heating up nicely

i sure mist them fish the last 4 months or so
but to be sure they are a bit tricky down there
if you are not persistant on them fish you wont ketch them
without all the electronics and other things its a tuff thing to figure out down there

i don't keep fish from there
i think it may be allowed in that stretch
but to be sure a lot of fish just aint for my table

and tellin fish stories
i am trying to git to the they kant escape me status
it seems to require a bit of extra effort on crappie fish for sure

...the fish are from one of the forks of the trinity in ft worth
i aint sure ...it may be the west fork ?
i dont think its the clear fork
i ketched a few years ago in several places on the trinity
down by California crossing over by irving
the ole rod and gun club pits that filled up from the river near the there as well
an over flow /slough lake or 2 or 3 as well ...
under 35 near mockingbird
i imagine they survive all thru the river system

i sure would like to try them fork fish a time or 2 again
i was fortunate enough to get a ride from el rojo last year in the spring oer there
them fish sure sport some color ...
maybe next week after it warms up again ?
