Believe it or not, you CAN catch trophy size cats on smaller hooks. I can't remember the last time I lost a big fish due to the hook. Most if not all have been because of line breakage.

You don't have to use big hooks to catch a big fish. The last fish over 40lbs that I caught was on a 3/0 team catfish double action. It was the second day after a strong cold fronthit and the fish were just lightly picking up the bait and dropping it. I downsized my baits and changed hooks out from 5/0 and 8/0 to 3/0 and 5/0. Soon after I landed double 20s and a 43. The 43 was caught on a 3/0 double action with a head from a 3" shad.
