Let me start with I am an experienced fly fisherman, but have never fished salt. Ever. So we are planning a trip in June to surf side. I am just inquiring can I fly fish there without a guide? I obviously don't have a salt setup, may buy one, is it worth it? Should I get a guide? Should I just go offshore with a guide? Any advice is welcome.

I've fished there some and would advise you to have keep your options open. If conditions are bad for the surf (wind, dirty water, weed) then head for Xmas or Drum bays. Floating lines and closures and spoons in the bay. Surf is intermediate line and closures and spoons will work once you find which gut the fish are holding/working in.
As an aside if this is allowed, go to TKF for the best info in that area at that time and perhaps someone who's familiar with the area and techniques.
Guides are a good investment in your learning curve. Just depends how deep your pockets are. Wash off your fresh water gear and you'll do fine with 7 & 8 weights.
