Been fishing Ray Roberts with no luck since all honey holes are above water now. Thought I would try Grapevine this weekend. I have never been on the lake so thought I would go buy a map and study up. Has anyone fished lately, and any good reports? Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to use Google Map to see the actual shoreline of Grapevine and how it compares to the map you buy.

There aren't any ramps open on Grapevine I don't think as the lake is 10 feet low.

The ramp at the end of Dove Loop is open. You'll have to get your feet wet to use it though, unless you have someone to drive the boat and truck separately. I've tried to catch some crappie there the past 2 weekends with the kids. Granted, we have only used jigs, no minnow, but we haven't even had a bite! We tried from 2'-10' in standing timber at Twin Coves. Also tried a jig / bobber combo (set at about 24") in numerous locations with nothing to show for it other than an occasional largemouth bass, no crappie. As with Roberts, the lake is 9'10' low so many of the historical spawning banks are out of water. I did see several folks fishing in the marina stalls but you have to have a code to get thru the gate. It seemed some of them were catching a few, saw a couple of guys cleaning a bunch. Water temps were 61 degrees last Sat.
Forgot to mention that the ramp by Silverlake marina (by the dam) is open too.

Good info here scott01, thanks for the post. Historically, Marshall Creek has always been a Crappie hotspot on Grapevine. All those areas are high and dry and have been for some time now. I would think there are areas along the North shoreline that are holding spawning Crappie now. With the recent rains the water clarity has to be an issue I would think. We'll never know till we try!!! "thump"

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll just stick to Ray Roberts. It's been about a month since I was there last and the water was still around 49 degrees. I saw a few guys catching some in the boat slips over by the marina. Usually fish the north end of the lake, but I have seen some posts about Buck Creek and may give that a try. It looks like the wind is supposed to blow about 400mph saturday. Any shelter from the wind at Buck Creek? Thanks again for the detailed info.

We'll never know till we try!!! True deal on the creek fishing. No sandies or many crappie to speak of since they can't migrate from the lake. I'm going to give some more coves a try but with the low water, many have very little water left in them, lol. There are several on the north side that produce good spring crappie when the water level is normal, or even close to normal. The south wind later this week might blow those out too and turn them muddy or difficult to fish on Sat. "thump"

Scott01 I wonder if I saw you and your kids on Saturday, I was the guy in the yellow kayak not getting a bite! I also saw some guys catching em at the marina. I tried McPherson Slough too, no luck there either. If anyone has another suggestion at Grapevine, I'll try it!

Daughter caught 2 largemouths along that rocky shoreline with her jigs. She said, "Dad, I thought I was hung up both times!" lol Kids fished with me till about 11:30, then we picked up my wife (she brought lunch). We ate then the kids decided it was too cold and the fishing too slow so they were ready to go home. Mom took them home and I fished till about 4:30 or so. I just gave up on the crappie and went bass fishing, lol. They were biting pretty good and I caught 12-15 of them, nothing too big though.

I'm taking the day off too. I'll be in a Stratos 201 Pro Elite bass boat, black/silver/red. Say hello! I'm probably going to try my hand at catfish first, then maybe crappie. Trying to get something located that's consistent and biting well so the kids can hammer them on Sat, if the wind allows it.

They have been rackin-'em-and-stackin-'em in Twin Coves for several weeks now.
