You actually hit the nail on the head Fouzman, because a lot of fishermen think the black marks determine the lateral line that is what I use as the reference for the lateral line. When I teach someone how to bleed the fish from the side I usually tell them to stay below the dark spots. If they stay below the dark spots it keeps them from hitting the spine and all the nerves. I guess I should also teach them exactly where the lateral line is but if they think its the dark spots its good enough for me as long as they stay below it when doing fish care. Thanks for bringing that up.

Thanks Spinner! That's what I thought you meant, just wanted to clarify for the masses.

TPWD video on barotrauma It requires a youtube login for "inappropriate content". I guess it is because it shows a dissection. [/video] Another one, this time with Doug Hannon Both reputable sources for a good visual aid on how to "fizz" a LMB to relieve barotrauma.

I've fizzed fish with both methods and through the mouth is far easier. Google it and watch it. Very simple process. Whether you fizz through the side or mouth doesn't matter. Learn it and do what you're comfortable with. Fish clips are not the answer. If you have time to grab a clip and put it on you have time to fizz.
No excuses to not fizz if it's needed.

weight clips are a scam, quit trying to sell them. ive done hundreds of weigh ins as a TD. Why are they a scam? They save a ton of fish... If you can't bleed a fish and have a fish in your livewell all day, it keeps them from going dry on one side and dying. I have put 3 of them on a 14lber that was borderline on needing to be poked...by the time TPW came she was good to go and had a successful spawn.

We came across one prefishig Media last month. It was a slot and could get in trouble for it(ticket). But, I put it in my livewell with two Flip Clips on it. Left it for about an hour and pulled it out and it swam off. I was scared because of the GW thing. But, I just couldn't let a nice fish die.
