Anyone tried the dike lately? Went out last year a couple of times and just watched folks pulling out some pretty nice bull reds. Couldn't ever figure out what they were using (maybe finger mullet). But just curious if anything was happening down there recently.

Give a week or 2. When the shad pods start coming in the action is going to get hot. Generator with lights using 2" wildeye shad under a popping cork will slay'em (SPECS). I always love that TC in the middle April.

Sounds good on the specs. Didn't have much luck last year, but looking for all the info I can get. Caught a couple black drum and sheepshead on the N. Jetty in Galveston last weekend (Sunday - << yeah we braved it, wasn't too bad).
Any sheepshead in the area? Caught them last weekend on fresh dead shrimp on the bottom.

KBW- go on a windy night. They are bad if there is no breeze.
mattie- Go down Sky line drive about 3 miles. You'll see a bunch of rocks and remains of an old dock. There should be plenty of sheepshead there. If you wade fish becareful, the bottom has lots of broken concrete.

usually just fish just outside the rocks on a cork/floater. I kept getting tired of getting hung up trying to bottom out there. Saw lots of guys doing it though.
Also, not really set up to wade just yet. Rebuilding stock after it all being stolen some years ago.

So with the lights on the dike, do you just hook them up to the genny and spot them on the water? Sort of like your own makeshift pier lights?

Shine them down as tight to the rocks as possible. I see a lot of guys cast the beam to far out and the fish are spread out. The more concentrated the beam to one area the easier the fish are to catch. I use dual 1000wat p64, shine one straight down and the other at a slight angle to create dark spot between them. Bring the bait down the edge of the light and into the shadow. By the end of the week the water should be back at the right temp and the shad pods will be right on the rocks. The glass minnows will be there soon enough as well.
