I know this topic is beat to death 100 times over but I cannot figure this out.
I have 2 shimano Sahara spinning reels. One I've had for years and I love it, amazing reel. The other I got in a trade from a guy on the forum last year, it's a very smooth great casting reel, BUT no matter what I do, no matter what line I spool, how I spool it, it ALWAYS knots up. I can't figure it out. I've spoiled it 3 times in the last week and it's done it every time.
So I'm looking for a solution. Can I spool it normally then take it out and let all the line out and reel it back in? Could it just be the reel? Am I being ignorant and doin something wrong? Should I bite the bullet on some nanofil ad spool it with that?
Give me my options guys, I like the reel but not how it's treating the line I put on it

In the old days ....... before line treatment...... we would put a pan of water on the stove and bring it to a boil, take the pan off the stove, put your spool of line in the hot water and then spool your spinning reel, leaving the spool in the hot water as you spool the reel. Works like magic and you don't have to buy line treatment spray.

I always throw my spool in some water and spool it on. I have one of those reels and as long as I don't put a whole bunch of light line on it it does well. Also, make sure you close your bell manually not with the reel handle after every cast (in case you didn't know).

You might be putting it on backwards, try turning your spool over before you put the line on.
you know, nothing wrong with seven men who met on the internet going for a swim together

After years of dealing with the twist associated with mono and flourocarbon, I made the switch to nanofil. Granted,it's not cheap, but what a difference. This stuff is amazing in the way it handles.Give it a try,you are goung to like it.

If by what you mean "knot up" when you cast your line there is a loop that ends up running down the rod line guides. And you have to pull off a bunch of line to get the loop out of the spool...then I would say your casting, then turning your handle to engage the bail. DO NOT do this. At the end of your cast use your opposite hand and flip the bail manually as you raise the rod to take up some line slack.

By knot up I mean exactly that.....I'll make a cast or 2 (always close the bail manually) and then the 3rd cast I have a huge knot in the line....I've never dealt with this before but the water ideas sounds good Also I've spoiled it every way I know how, counter clockwise, clockwise, upside down, right side up while runnin my belly and patting my head....I just can't make it happen the right way Also I have used nanofil for about a year on my ultra lite rod/reels and love it on those but it's so dang pricy

One last thing...put that reel on the other rod and try it out. Switch them. Just a thought. Sometimes it's the wierd that gets the answer.

I was pullin your leg haha....I never use em except for finesse which I have grown to love over the last year......I go on canoe trips every year and spinning reels are just the way to go(for me atleast) and I want this punk of a reel to just work how it's supposed to before I leave in 2 weeks
