It would not be my first choice but if that is what you have go for it! When I first started off with blue cats thats all I had but I never really had them tested by a good size cat before I upgraded. Fish with what you have and enjoy being out there, many reading this just wish we could be out there on or by the water. Catching is just the bonus IMO.
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

It'll catch a trophy under ideal conditions drag set, open water etc... If a guy can catch a 50 pound flathead on ultralite crappie gear you will be fine. Fish what you got then get what you want when you can.
lets go fishin!!

All good advice, that setup will definitely catch some good fish. If you plan on catching trophy cats consistently, then they will probably wear down that reel over time.

I bought a pair for my kids to use when we went to the coast a couple years ago. Surprised by the quality. So was someone at a restaurant. They stole just one from back of truck. Who only steals one rod? Really user friendly reel and love the E glass rod mine came with. I'd use until there's money in pocket for a better reel or when you trash the gears hauling in a big cat. Great channel cat rod. In pic, I did put a USA made penn 209 with 60lb braid on the rod when fishing gar but the rod is plenty good and the 808 will do the job. Penn reels are work horses and cheap on EBay. Sorry for dirty pic,I was fishing alone and my concern was to snap a photo and get him back in the water. 53" long

I would say yeah it will work ... I caught a record breaking drum on a pink zepco 33 w 10lb test... it weighed 10.38 lbs. And it was fun pullin that monster in.. like someone else said you got to work that fish .by playin w your drag and #1 TAKE YOUR TIME ... DO NOT try to hoss them in .let them tire out before you try to land it... Yall can see it on YouTube" Lake record drum 10.38 ..." have the pole I caught it on next to it.. I wrote Zepco a letter stating on how well the pole held up and broke a lake RECORD w it. I also inclosed some pics w the letter and and did the same w Cajun line witch zepco makes and they sent me some FREE gear ... and promotional items it was nice . Good luck hope you catch a monster too with that setup...

I used to use these all the time when I was a kid . up to around 9yr. then I got tired of losing every big fish I hung and taught myself how to use a baitcaster. problem is the drag. once a big fish strips the gears out its toast and just locks up.
