Man did I ever get my eyes opened this week....... I spent 3 days in the boat with a very serious Crappie tournament angler. I went to meet Steve and see how he used Go Go Minnows to spider rig, drop-shot for Crappie and "Shoot Docks". I left Alabama a more well rounded Crappie angler after having my eyes opened to some other very effective techniques. I still like my one pole approach for most situations, but there are some serious methods used to target Crappie that I had never tried. Hope you like the video -

We have been shooting docks around N TX for years. Mr Crappie has a good video shooting a dock on CCL and if I recall he caught a limit under one dock! Not that unusual to get a dozen or more per dock. But, contrary to the video in this post, we mainly shoot docks when the sun is shining, providing shade for crappie on especially hot summer days! I'll put my buddy, Jigum against anyone out there shooting docks, and others like Guy Skinner and Ernest Paty can skip a shoot all the way under and out the back of a big dock when there is only a couple of inches of open water under the dock!

I agree shooting docks has been a known technique for many "in the know Crappie anglers." I have known about it for years but never had the chance to see the proper technique and witness real accuracy.
There are 1000's of folks that visit this site everyday that have never seen it done..... I am exposing them to the technique and the effectiveness of the go go minnow once the proper technique is used. I posted the video for folks like me that knew about it but never really saw it done. Im not saying we are the inventors or this technique or that it is revolutionary..... This is just a how to tips video for the fle fly fans on our channel. There will be a lot of folks appreciate the tips in the vid.

Steve used a 6 ft Bass Pro M spinning rod. 6 lb Tug O war Mono and a size 10 spinning reel.
I used a 6 Med High Standard Spinning rod with all the same....

I still like my 4 1/2 footer for that. Even though peeps on here are going with really longs rods. I think I want to be versatile when out on the water.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

also if you pay attention, even with the sun being obscured by clouds, there is still a shady side of the dock. observe in the video, when he got to the shady side of the dock he caught more fish. So the sun doesnt have to be blinding out for fish to be under docks.. great video.

Guy, I'll go shooting docks with you anytime!
And yes, you can find crappie under some docks year round, rain or shine. But, in my experience the best time is when the water heats up and the sun shines brightly.
And, I certainly didn't mean we had a monopoly on dock shooting but, we seem to do a lot more here in N Tx than anyone else. Possibly due to the large number of docks on most of our lakes, like Cedar Creek Lake.
