May be a dumb question but...

I was thinking about taking the skirt off a chatter bait and replacing it with a fluke or trick worm. Y'all ever do this? With the lakes getting alot of pressure right now I am trying to think of some different things to try.

No but why would you need to remove the skirt to add the worm or fluke?

Guess you wouldn't come to think of it.

Just add to it, I'm throwing one at Amistad next weekend.

I fish it like that a lot in clearer water with a 4.5" LFT Live Magic Shad. Works great.

1/4 oz and pitch the docks just like a jig...I know it won 125K

I did when I was tearing baits down to 'terminal tackle' for the Berkley Tournament last year. I would think that in absence of a skirt a bladed jig with a swim bait would look pretty much like a 'scrounger' rig.

I've done this before with boot tail baits. Called it a chatter swim. I took the skirt off but that's just because I wanted it to look less like a traditional skirted bait. Try playing with both and see which one works for you.

It does act similar to a scrounger rig but has a tighter wobble, I think. I'm not a huge fan of scroungers. I'd rather throw something like this or just stick with a swim bait. Just my opinion.

Sounds stupid but one of the biggest fish I have caught at chambers came from a naked chatterbait with a zellamander on it

Big creature baits on a bladed swim jig never works.

get a 3/8 chatter bait, and throw on a 3.5 live magic shad boot tail. the boot bait gives it action even on the fall without the blade engaged. some guys take the skirt off but i personally don't. i think its a bait not used enough and really doesnt need any tuning to be different. its a killer of a bait, once you get a fish or two your hooked!

I make my own chatterbaits...certain times, I use a 3/4 oz jig with a 6/0 hook and a 10" lizard when I ledge fish....works great...I've caught numerous 6-8 lb'rs...makes a bigger profile in the deeper water.....Yup...it WORKS.....

Sometimes a skirtless chatterbait will do better when the fish want a more "streamlined" profile. Sometimes the skirt can be a little bit "too much". Never hurts to try.

I have done that to a buzz bait before. Took off the skirt and added a super fluke.
