I'm confused by this part of the regulations. It could be taken two ways:
1. Its not legal to put more than one hook on a rod.
2. Its not legal to put more than one hook on a rod if you're trying to foul hook fish.

From the twpd website:
Quote:

Pole and Line

A line with hook, attached to a pole (includes rod and reel)

May be used to take GAME AND NONGAME fish.
It is unlawful to take or attempt to take fish with one or more hooks attached to a line or artificial lure used in a manner to foul-hook a fish (snagging or jerking). A fish is foul-hooked when caught by a hook in an area other than the fish's mouth.

Can any one clarify this for me?

thanks

No. This law applies to snagging fish. Gentlemen don't snag fish. If you are catching a fish in his dang old mouth, you can have lots of hooks.

That law is to snag fish, the law says no more than 100 hooks per person so I guess you could have 100 hooks on your line

As someone said, you can use up to 100 hooks on all devices. As long as your lake doesn't specify a single hook and you're not trying to snag fish, you'll be fine with two. That's the way I do it and am never worried about getting checked by wardens or lake patrol about having multiple hooks.

Just look at the Alabama rig, double Alabama, and triple Alabama rig how are you supposed to throw 15 hooks and not snag the fish

Good deal guys thanks for the responses. It seems like it would be a real advantage to put two hooks out there on the line, baited separately. Is there any reason not to do that?

A single fisherman may have up to 100 hooks in the water. (Not sure about married fishermen. laugh )

A jug line can have at most 5 hooks. A trotline can have up to 100 hooks, cannot exceed 600 feet and hooks must be at least 3 feet apart.

A treble hook counts as 1 hook. I believe a lure counts as 1 hook even if it has multiple treble hooks.

I thought you could only fish 2 hooks on a rod & reel, but I don't see that in the regulations. Maybe that's a crappie regulation? Or maybe I just dreamed it up? I know from experience that having 3 hooks on a rod & reel line can be nightmare to manage. Never tried to tie on any more than that.

Not sure if the law has changed. I folliw the rules I read a few years ago

2 hooks on r-n-r . Not sure how lures with treble hooks apply.
Throw lines may have no more than 5.
Jug lines no more than 5 hooks and no metal otherwise. U may use metal based weights.
Jug lines are 50 hooks spaced as mentioned earlier.

They used to have the rules in yearly rule book but dont recall seeing it in last yrs or this yrs.

I have had no hassle following the above.

Yeah I am pretty sure that you can use more than 1 hook. I know here we can use 2 at a time.

Go to Texas Parks and Wildlife. It has a email for all questions. The questions are answered by a game warden. Save your answers. So, if a gw has a problem with it, you got the answer from headquarters.

Only problem is if they keep getting tangled. Hasn't been an issue for me. Started using two just for separate baits, shad on one hook and one for dip bait, but the shad was hit so little I just switched both hooks to the other bait. I figure double the smell can't hurt.

It is all still listed in the Outdoor Annual.

There is no violation having two separate hooks on the same line while fishing.

Snagging isn't as big of an issue here as it is up north in the rivers.
