I throw a shaky head all the time. I have one on a 7ft med spinning rod. On that set up I use 10 pound braid with a flour leader. I like throwing it around rock and points. I also have one on a 7ft med heavy casting rod with 15 pound braid and a flour leader. I throw it just about anywhere I don't want to risk a spinning setup. It is great on lake with a lot of pressure.

I use shaky head for anything 1/4oz and less and if I'm fishing in less than 12 - 15 feet. I use T-rig for everything else. I also like using the shaky head for flipping for bass suspended in timber. Bayou Baits makes a great shaky head jig head with a heavier hook.

I have always been a t-rig fisherman. I can usually get them to bite it in almost any setting. But I have to tell you that I'm now a huge shakey head fan. In the last tourney i fished it was almost all I could get to work. Caught the big bass of the tourney on it. I've found you can still cover water with it by dragging it unless they are real finicky and then the slow approach works better. Bedding fish hate it when it sits in their bed and that tail floats. If you check out my rods on deck you'll find 5 different soft plastic set ups. They work for me!

When I have a shaky head tied on, I always have a Texas Rig tied on. When I have a Texas Rig tied on, I don't always have a Texas Rig tied on. However, I have a Texas Rig tied on 98% of the time. I use a Texas Rig anytime anywhere. A shaky head is more of a specialty presentation for me. I set it up on 10lb Invisx on a lightweight rod so I can feel the taps and a fast reel to get that slack out. Much different application for 1/16 oz. than 1/4 oz. I prefer not to use a shaky head around any weeds. Timber, sandy bottom, rocky bottom, rocks, clay bottom I will use it. A world of difference to me. I my experience, when they are hitting that shaky head, I don't usually put that rod down for a while because they generally keep hitting it.
