We had 3 new ones installed, they all have remote controls. The light switches that controlled the old ones no longer work and they must be kept in the on position. My question is, is there a way to have switches and remotes both live?

short answer, nope.
you have to have power to the light/fan for the remote to work, switch has to be on to power light/fan.

Light switches still work but have to be in the on position the have constant power to the fan. I have these also and it is not an issue. Does the switch being in the on position all the time bother you?

Does the switch being in the on position all the time bother you? Switch being on does not bother me, I was just thinking that both the remote and the switch should both work.

Remote will turn on lights, dim lights, turn on and change speeds of fan, but you need a main switch to supply power to fan.
