Anyone use them? I bought several when they were on sale, and yesterday was the first use of one of them. Started out pretty good throwing a spinner bait, but after a couple of hours seem to get noisy in the gears. Didn't effect casting or retrieving, but just a little gear noise.

I have one, and love it. No problems with throwing light weight lures. Smooth, and have caught some nice fish with it.

I have several, you may have gotten one that wasn't oiled well, I usually add some when I get them.

I've had one for a few months now and it ok just a couple of annoyances. One, it feels like a tire that has a flat spot on it. Two, the anti-reverse is screwing up. I can reel the lure all the way up to the rod tip and when I turn loose of the crank, it'll unspool about 3' of line or so with the handle turning backwards. Other than that it's golden.

I love mine, not only is it a great reel for the money it also has a lifetime warranty. This isn't advertised, but if you bring it up to the store they'll exchange it for a new one if anything goes wrong with it.

I've literally probably owned more than 30 since the original release fished them hard and put up wet. The gears don't come greased very well and for some reason they put grease in the bearing instead of oil. Out of all Of them maybe two have given me problems and academy swapped me out no questions asked. Great reel for the price and can cast any lure a mile paired with the right reel and line . The drags a little week but I've still pulled 6-7lb fish out of Towakoni pads using braid with no issues. I own all lews but still have one mettle it's about two years old and still going strong.

Just bought a gen 2 mettle Friday. Taking I out tomorrow to try it out. Is my first one, but have heard great things about them. Look foward to landing a fish with it.

I don't have a problem with mine either--as someone stated if anything goes wrong with it, just take it back--no questions. You can't ask for much more--BPS will take a magnify glass to it, before they make a decision.

I was also told the one year warranty was with H2O not Academy. I believe I'm done...

Update. I really like shopping Academy. They always take care of me. This last week was the first issue in 15 years. I have two Mettle reels. I use one for a guest rig and another I use for some long casting. No problems. I advised and older guy to get one to start fishing again. No problems. I advised my neighbor to get one. On his second fishing trip, he cast it and the reel fell apart and fell in the water (on the bank). The cap came off and the spool came out. Weird. I took it back for him with a receipt and the original box. Now the problem. The used reel UPC code is not the same as the new reels in the store. I asked them to just replace the reel and they said no, it was a different product. The reel looks the same and the parts are interchangeable. Then they wanted to give me only a $9 clearance credit, but I had the receipt, so they gave me $33. I had to pay $20 something difference. This is odd, same reel, new UPC. I want back a week later and talked to the manager (they know me since I do thousands at that store). He gave me my money back so I got an even exchange on the reel. So for future, it is not unlimited returns - or even reasonable returns if UPC is different. It would have been better for me to return reel w/o receipt or box, but not my style.

Maybe I'm pretty, they never give me any problems. As a matter of fact I got charged for an extra rod. Got home and realized it. Went back he next day told them and they had me my money for it. I've also exchanged and returned things with zero hassle. When you bring back a gen 1 Mettle and try and get a gen2 I wouldn't want to exchange them either considering the gen 1 clearances for $10 bucks . I don't see what they're doing that upsets some of you. Great reel for the money and show me another $50 reel with the features and the smoothness it has. Oh wait, they're isn't one.
