I add garlic and shad oils to the baits I produce, but to be frank, I don't think scents are worth the money right now. With the crappie being as hormonal as they are right now, they will hit anything put in their face.

Everyone swears by it and I haven't converted to a believer (just yet) but I have seen some results posted on here. I might pick up a bottle and try...

Can't tell if it has made a difference yet, but I picked up a bottle of the mo glo slab jam and like how it stays on a jig and easy to apply as well.

With the crappie being as hormonal as they are right now, they will hit anything put in their face. honesty is the best policy brother i went yesterday with bare jigs right out of the box from academy or walmart ? kant remember ...but the reason i used such a ridiculous looking contraption of a crappie bait is because i wanted to be highly visible in my presentation and aggravating as well i come by the aggravating part fairly naturally though no scent would make a difference in my opinion as well ...of course motor oil and or other types of things along that line wont help either but right now stay with highly visible ... later we shall discuss the attributes of some of the "LURE FLAVOR" zzzz LOL KABOOM

Try Slab Slobber. I'm like you, I've been looking for years and haven't found anything until this. The company I used for 20 years went out of business when the owner passed. It is a really good scent and oil slick. It stays on and gives off oily, yummy scent. Richard Malcom in Georgia makes it. They've been working on it for a while and they've got it down! Just one drop is all you need... a little dab'l do ya. Just Google Slab slobber. And yes... in the Spring when they are very aggressive/defensive, if you put a rusty coke can tab down there, they'll hit it. But I always say, every little bit helps... and it's cheap. Good luck!!

I use to swear by them, but not sure if it makes a difference. I used nibbles, Yum shad scent, Fish Sticks, garlic scent, ect. I think it is a confidence thing, and the main thing is to just get your jig in front of the fish, and that they see it. If you think it helps, do it, I don't think it would hurt.

Can we go old school for a bit? Buy one dozen minnows, put them in a mason jar while still alive, add just enough water to cover the minnows, put the lid on and seal it tight. Put the sealed jar in your garage in an area where it is out of the traffic isle. Do not open the jar for at least 3 to 6 weeks. I know everyone wants something we can use right now but be patient, good stuff takes a while. After about 3 to 6 weeks everything in the jar should be turning to a liquid. If it is not, then let it set until the contents go liquid. When it is ready it should look like a dark liquid with only the scales glittering when you swish it around. Do not open it inside any room, the smell will overwhelm the whole area. When the contents of the jar are liquid, take it with you to your favorite fishing spot [outdoors of course], open the jar slowly to release the gas, hold the jar away from you and dip a jig and line into the liquid in the jar. Remove the jig and put the lid back on the jar. You now have a jig loaded with the strongest natural scent known. If scent makes a difference then this will catch fish. And if you spill this stuff in the carpet of your boat, either sell it or burn it cause the smell ain't coming out!!!!! "thump"

I was using garlic, but have started using shad. I've been checking my mailbox as someone was supposed to mail me a sample of Slab Slobber to use I think it's part confidence and part smell of something besides plastic and whatever scent you've picked up on your hands. I've never smelled a minnow or shad that smelled like plastic or reel lube, gas, etc
