It's got more water than last year... That's true. The lake does still contain bass. At least the last time I was there it did.

This past weekend I saw a few bucks up cruising in 62 degree water but no bedding activity, at least on the main lake. I know up-river, some guys were catching bed fish. I caught a few on brush out on the edge of spawning flats, but I did talk to some guys catching fish in 20 foot on main lake points.

It is tough fishing on the main lake. Go to Box Canyon to put in then make the 25 mile run up the river. You will see the Mexico Hunting Lodge on the left up there about 2 more miles on the Mex. side start fishing about half way back in every cove. Spend about 30 min. on each side of the coves. If nothing is happening keep going up river to the next one and etc.
If you catch a few off the points in a cove then go to the back of that cove and pitch/flip every bush there. Take lizards, Stanley Sidewinder with some rattles for the tale and brush hogs. Watermelon Red everything.
Also build you two Mexico spinner baits like mine that I sell in 3/4 oz. But build yours in 1/2 oz., because you will not have the living rubber to make these skirts below. My skirts are bulky and will ride a 3/4 oz. spinner bait high in shallow water.
Clear Water: - White/chart. head - Small white willow leaf blade #3 - Large Silver willow leaf blade #4 - If it is cloudy run the darker colored skirt - If it is sunny run a blue/chart./white skirt
Off Color Water - Chartreuse Head - Small Chartreuse willow leaf blade #3 - Large Silver willow leaf blade #4 - Cloudy run the darker skirt - Sunny run a blue/chart./white skirt

I had better luck on green pumpkin magic brush hogs, but that's just me. It seemed like when I was there a few weeks ago I caught better quality bass up the rio grande, as was recommended above.

Somebody tell me something good about Amistad. I'm headed down there tomorrow to fish for 4 days. Loraine's cantina serves a nice steak on Wed.. Someone said to go 25 miles up river from Box Canyon...better take your hiking shoes.....You may run out of navigable water, long before you go 25 miles from Box. Did catch some shallow fish week before last on Red rattle trap..jerk bait and lizard..... You may get into a few fish...It's time!!

The word is 20 to 30 fish a day for the past couple day, not swearing to it since I've been at work but maybe something is starting to happen!

It's probably a typo try marker 25 up the Rio. Warmest water on the lake.
