I got this extension rod at academy for20#, it is sturdy and has 3 lock positions going up to 6'. I made the stake point from 3/4" oak dowel with lockscrew. I think it will hold up and point easily changed

Here's mine.

3/4" heavy-walled PVC, 2 section ~approx 36", threaded connection in the middle, "tee" on top. 1/2" bolt with hex-head cut off, Threads are JB welded into bottom of pipe. I also drilled a hole in pipe so the JB would hold on a little better. Fits in front hatch diss-assembled, and in paddle holder/clip when using and moving around.

Stake-out pole.

My anchor trolly has a clip. (vs. a ring) I didn't want a heavy clip on the accessory line or it would sink. All of my accessories have large loop to clip anchor trolley to, and also have wooden dowel floats so when I unclip, i can come back to the float and re-attach.

I have even used only lower section in very shallow water/hard bottom, and just looped line, around the pole.

Bonus pic (of brush grabber out of jumper cable clamp.

i thought of making one similar but using a long wood dowel in the center of the pvc for added strength, and jb weld the bottom aswell

I also made mine out of PVC pipe and stuffed the inside with wooden dowels of the closest diameter for a flush fit.

I sprayed 3M industrial adhesive on the dowels and I was inserting them in.

I made it 10 feet long to use as a push pole as well when fishing the marshes.

I took it with me this past weekend to the coast.
There were winds at least 15 knots with some 25 knot gusts.

The anchor pole still held in place 90% of the time.
You cant just stab it into the bottom, you have to apply pressure to further drive it in deep.

I also made mine out of PVC and wooden dowels. With the thin wall 3/4" PVC a 7/8" dowel fits really nice. I think I cut it to 9' which at first seemed long but the bottom has been real soft so I was glad for the extra length. Next is to wrap a few places with paracord with a small loop poking out of the wraps to clip the rope coming from my trolley...

Been looking around. I found some ground rod(8ft long, 5/8th round) for 13 bucks. It looks to be the same stuff they make the stake out poles from. All you would need to do is paint and glue on a handle.

That looks like it will work. How is it secured in the pvc?

Cut a 1' off the 10' 3/4" pvc then saw kerfed
it length ways making it 5/8".
Next I covered it with goop and using a rubber mallet
hammered it into the 3/4" making that one end double walled.
Next I cut the bolt head off 1/2"x6" lag bolt sharpened
the non threaded end. Then gooped the threads and using
a pipe wrench, wrenched it in place.
It's real tight and secure.

That is a steel rod with a copper coating made for grounding electrical equipment. It probably weighs 12# or so. I would look for something in plastic or fiberglass.
