I'm not originally from Texas, so I really have nothing in this little deabte, but...
If any of us want to tear this down to one play, it really all goes back to the last play of the game of USC against....Notre Dame. If that call doesn't go the way it does (either the fumble thing with no time on the clock, or the whole "Bush Push" incident), then USC isn't even in the National Championship game. Just a thought...

I happened to be at the game, and I think the picture may be a Photoshop trick.
The USC cheerleaders weren't directly behind the goal posts during the game. We were making fun of their long sleeve sweaters that they were wearing, which is the only reason I recall that.
Also, right behind the goal post were about 1,000 photographers (if you recall the last TD that Vince ran in, he had to jump over a handful of photographers). They were also all lined up behind the goal posts. On that shot, there isn't one photographer.
But it's still a very, very classic picture. I love it.
As far as the comments about Texas "sucking" next year - we'll, it's not next year. Texas is #1 and no one else is. Maybe USC didn't know that Vince was probably going to run the ball on 4th and 5. As everyone knows, we tried to keep it a secret that Vince could run the ball. We also asked the press to not publish the fact that Vince could run the ball. So we probably surprised USC when Vince started to scramble.
