What time after sunset do you guys usually find crappie feeding in shallow water? I went to Palestine last night around 7:00 and got alot of bites up until 8:30 2-5 fow from the bank. Tips and info well appreciated! -Josh

the crappie are in a preparation to spawn mode right now ... they come in waves all night long and it varies from night to night Saturday a monster wave came in about 1130 pm and tried to do what crappie do till 12 30 am the feeding associated with this behavior is them aggressively killing and eating any small fish/whatever in the area to protest the eggs they are either laying or about to lay the rest of the year ...they move in right about dark if they are feeding shallow that night there is a probability that more fish came in after you left as well I am sure they did where I was also pretty tricky fish to figure out sometimes

Thinking about doing a little night fishing tonight, was gonna start a thread but saw this one so I hope u don't mind me askin a few questions. Do y'all prefer minnows or jigs at night? I feel like I'm gonna use jigs to have the haste when it's dark (plus this will be first time crappie fishing at night). What color jigs should I use and is it better if they glow? I'm going up in a creek, should I stick to one spot and see if those waves of fish come or slowing troll the banks? Any tips would be great, thanks In advance

After dark I usually use either white or white/chartreuse.
I think the crappie can see it better.
I usually concentrate on areas where the crappie have spawned in the past.

I've heard at night, use dark colors but I usually just try everything and see what they're hitting the most.

When using lights at night for crappie or whites in murky/muddy water. Which color is better? green or white?

I usually prefer black/chart or red/chart at night, but I try everything...Personally, if they are taking jigs, that is what I feed them...That said, I mostly use minnows at night, because most of the time that is what they want, especially in the deeper water in summer.
Incidentally, I typically use three poles while night fishing...two with minnows (one dorsal hooked and one lip hooked) and one with a jig....until I figure out what they want and how they want it...Hope this information helps...
