The drain plug on my lower unit is leaking and I'm wondering what kind of gasket or o-ring goes there. I have a 96 Mercury any and all help would be appreciated.

It is a gasket. Any boat shop.

I picked up a gasket from a dealer on Saturday for it. The material was hard almost like a fiber glass ring but that bad boy is still leaking.

Did that, the lower has that magnet on it and that's the one I got down there. I may just end buying two new plugs.

try to find the yellow washers for the plugs. They seal easier than the fiber ones by far.

Make shure the sealing surface in lower and plugs are clean. Have found a piece of gasket stuck in the lower more than once.
