I wanted to keep my gear secure while stopping to eat or staying at the cabins on Fork but did not want to pay the $500 for two of the brand name Lok-R-Bars. So being the project guy that I am, I decided to build my own. Here is the material list and how easy they are to do.
12' of 11ga 1" square tubing (Wylie Steel Supply)
12' of 14ga 1-1/4" square tubing (Wylie Steel Supply)
10 1" plastic caps (Wylie Steel Supply)
Total $27.15

4 3-1/2 steel bolts (Lowes) $4.03
2 Cans spray paint - 1 epoxy paint 1 gloss black $8.14

4 Door lock blanks 3/16" thick off of ebay for $13

I had the locks but you can buy the locks for trailer couplings at Academy for $10.50 ea so $21.00

That would be a total for 2 bars at $73

I ground two the bolt head edges off just a little to allow the bolts to just slip inside the 11 ga square tube and welded the bolts in. I slid a 2 inch piece of the 1" with the bolt welded in, inside one end of the 1-1/4" and welded it in. (the stationary end)
I then just cut the other 1" piece about 36" long to slide inside the 1-1/4" for the sliding end.
You can see everything else I did, adding feet to the front to sit on top of each compartment and drilled the holes in the door blanks and in the bar for the locks. Long story short, easy to do and VERY stable and secure. Let me know what you think. I like em smile

Looks good! I'd still bring my rods in at fork!

Great job man!

What is the hitch-looking ball at the right end for?

thumb Good job. It's awful that someone has to go to such extremes these days to keep thieves from taking anything/everything a man works hard to get/put together and have just to reward himself with some relaxation.
God help me but I have NO pity for a thief! NONE......

I just had that little rubber 1" ball with 1/4" threads laying around in a scrap box and thought it would make a nifty little handle to pull the bar into place. NOT NEEDED just BLING smile

Nice!! I built a set very much like yours for a friend of mine only the sliding side was spring loaded. I haven't built me a set yet but this thread has reminded me I need to get back on that project.
