This is from another forum, reddit, that I thought this might be interesting here.

Pretty amazing what the lightning did to his fishing rod.

Pictures of fisherman, fishing rod hit by lightning-maybe a little NSFW

He describes what happened in the comments section.
His description of the story.

I don't know about you but this will probably convince me to get off the water if a storm is coming.

This young man is lucky to be alive ! At least get down low in the boat as you can with lightning around you...!

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

I treated a fisherman that got struck. The electricity exited via his groin and made him look like a Ken doll. Don't fish in a thunderstorm unless you love fish more than your manhood.

He is very lucky, if there was a path to ground he wouldn't be here. Being on the water there is no path

I made a deal with Ma Nature a long time ago. I don't tempt her and she won't kill me. Some of the comments are gold.

eeks If this guys pants exploded I'm sure he got it pretty good down there too. Screw the dock I'm heading to the bank pronto if I ever get caught in one. If the storm comes in quick it tends to leave quick too, def not worth roasting your chestnuts!

If you can hear thunder, you are in danger.

The moment I hear any thunder or see the patently obvious in the distance, I am hauling A off the water. It's not worth being turned into french fry.

Don't mess with Mother Nature.

My uncle and his best friend got zapped. They did not survive. Fishing is never that important.
