Heading up there in a few days. I have never fished a rock bottom lake, nor even caught a smsllmouth.

Can anyone who has ever fished the Lake offer a few pointers.

Looking for smallies and largemouths.

Thanks

spawn should be goin on, clear lake so sight fishing is easy but it is also a large lake.
I would start up toward the river and find some warmer coves, jig/craw for smallies, normal lmb bed lures.
drop your line size to 10 or 12# clear or green and throw red eye shad, chatterbait, sq bill in shad color and worms/creature baits for either.
smallies are a ton of fun and fight like no other bass.

Some smallies should be bedding. Largemouth and spots will be on in a few days. We have had some rain for a week so you should find some water with color. I have been using 15 flouro and catching them pretty good. Own a cabin rental business here in Hochatown and stay on the fish fairly well. Have you rented a cabin yet? PM me if you are looking and I will help you out.

I have always wanted to haul the boat up there and fish that lake but those little trout get me side track.

If they aren't quite on beds yet, try carolina rigs on secondary points up in the creeks.

They has been some huge fish caught on the Alabama rig the last few weeks. A 12 pound plus weighed in a tournament last week and didn't win heavy stringer. Also seen a picture of a 13 plus a couple weeks back.

It's an awsome lake. Pay attention to your GPS, it's easy to get confused with all the islands. Don't be suprised if you're only 20ft from shore, sitting in 70ft water.

Anything to hit with your boat/motor in this lake? We meet friends in broken bow every year in July and I'd love to bring the boat for a day of fishing while there, but the one time I water skied out there it looked like you could hit some rocks if you didn't know the lake.

Safe to run. Just don't run right next to bank and swing around points and you will be fine. There are stumps next to banks and back in coves and creeks. Might be tough fishing in July. Fish will be deep. Best fishing for me is March, April and may. Also good fall lake in October and November. Alabama rig seems to be fooling the big girls now.

I fished it several years back with no success but I know this much; that lake is freaky deep and fishing up toward the rivers would probably be a good thing right now. We rode down toward the dam and if I remember right we saw 350+ deep water and over 100 feet deep with in just a few feet of the shore line. It will probably be more like a normal lake back toward the rivers......bet there are some shallow flats up that way as well.......
