How comes it seems you can never catch those fish? I've only done it once. Doesn't it mean they are the active ones? Same thing goes for an area where you see multiple do that and think its a good spot to fish...then you catch nothing

How come I keep catching small fish when every product I buy is supposed to catch more and bigger fish?

Perhaps they are a different species than you are targeting. Gar, carp and buffalo all breach the surface.

Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

In my experience, this is the case. If you get on a school of bass at the surface, you are going to get bit almost every cast.

Are you sure they are Bass ?

Many times they are not.. I have fished with lots of guys who either can't tell the difference between a carp, gar etc. when they surface--- or just assume if it comes to the top--IT'S A BASS !!!

Many times they are small bass (blacks, stripers, sandbass) that are feeding on very small bait.. and will not hit most regular sized offerings..
Most times if it's a decent sized active bass.. You put a lure quick enough where he sees it.....he will hit...

If they are bass, sometimes they're really picky and ar locked-in to what ever they're chasing. If you don't match the hatch they won't bite. Other times seems they'll hit anything.

Agreed. In my life the majority if fish I've actually SEEN breach, were carp or gar. Seeing a bass breech is rare for me and usually when I see bass busting on top, I can see shad fleeing. And a spook will almost always get bit in those instances.

I don't think Canyon Lake has any of these kind of fish.

they are keyed in on one particular piece of forage.. may be that it is wounded, swimming erratic, or just pist them off... Hard to get them to turn on something totally different. it does happen though, their little pea sized brain is pretty simple... survive

I would venture to say any lake in Texas has at least two of those species...most have all three..

When I see a bunch of them, I usually assume its sandies. In a tourney, I would only throw soft plastics while they are around. Those lil mouths can really suck to unhook a treble with all 3 hooks in it, they don't usually take my soft plastics though

Canyon has some of the biggest schools of roaming gar I have ever seen, comparable with Falcon.
