Just wanted to give a quick review over the all star rods I have been using for 3 seasons now. I current have over 8 of the ASTeam rods and 2 nanos and use them from flipping and pitching, to crankbaits, texas rigs, Carolina rigs, flukes, jerkbaits, topwaters, and everything in between. I have only broke one rod and that's was from picking up the rod while it was wedged under a boat cleat which snapped it in half (Academy replaced rod without receipt and no questions asked). These rods are priced well and go on sale a few times a year. I know a lot of people write them off because they are "cheap" or "junk" but I have no complaints nor do I feel at a disadvantage while using them in tournaments. Just wanted to share with anyone that was on the fence about using one.

You're very lucky. I bought 5 of the $129.00 model on sale for $79 and took them back not a week later. Handles falling a part, tips and guides breaking. Had two asn spinning rods break, one on a hook set and one fighting a 2lb smallmouth. An ast jerk bait butt fell off after a day of use and the flipping rod had the guide problems. 1 didn't have something wrong with it but out of 4 I'd rather not bother. The original all stars were great and that's what made me purchase them. In my book they're still cheap junk to me and I wouldn't pay the $20.00 it cost to make them. I've had 13 omen since then and have had zero problems and in the last month I've flipped several fish over 5 in the boat to boot. I take all my rods inside never throw them around or mistreat them so I guess I just got a bad batch.if they work for you and you like them then great and who cares what other people think. I also must Have dirty dirty hands because my grips are dirty even with a regular cleaning while yours are spotless and don't even show normal wear marks.

Hate to hear that's, guess I got lucky with mine. My handles get very dirty and I often clean them warm water and alcohol. The nano rods are newer but the ASTs are going on 3rd season. Between me and my fishing partner you would think we were sponsored by All Star lol. One of the major factors is the fact if one broke, I can replace without any hassles and I have 3 academy's in the Conroe/Woodlands area. Don't get me wrong, I know there are better, more expensive rods, these seem to work just fine for me.

The only all star rods I've had issues with are the asm rods with the micro guides. I have an ast flipping rod and a Carolina rig classic series now. I have boat flipped 4 and 5 pounders while flipping jigs and never had an issue with it and have been fishing with it for over a year. I just bought the Caroline rig rod but have had others and never had issues with breakage or guides. They may not be as good to some since they are not made in Houston anymore but 90 percent of the rods these days are made elsewhere. Just my 2 cents.

I used some Powell rods this last weekend and if I didn't already have so much invested in 13 omens I'd be switching over. As for the all-stars yes academy has a great exchange but with rods in he same price range I don't have to worry about exchanging them because they don't break. I also bought mine on sale so who knows, several people could have tossed the rod around before I got to put them to good use. The handles on the nano spinning rod are way way to short though.

You must be talking about the green micro guide version All Stars correct? I had one and the reel seat literally fell apart on me. Had a buddy buy one a few months later and his reel seat fell apart after 1 day of use! Those are JUNK IMO but I think the cheaper ones are actually better believe or not.

I'm glad to hear a good review about the (Pure Fishing) Allstars. I have several of the original Houston made rods that I wouldn't sell for double the original price! I purchased 2 Allstar's after the sell out and broke both of them in a short time period. With companies out there such as TFO, I personally will not ever purchase another "NEW" Allstar.

I've had good results with the original All Stars, would not trade my old rods for any.

I was building myself a lot of spinning long rods(over 10')on ALL STAR AUSTIN(TITANIUM)fly blanks about 10 years ago and i am very happy with this rods fishing until today without problem, but this blanks was made in Houston ,not in China. I don't like the rods built today under ALL STAR name by the SHAKESPEARE in China....because don't have the same quality like the ALL STAR made before in Houston.

Same here. I still have a bunch of 15-20 year old All-Stars. They were the rod to have back in the day.

I have both the older "Houston" made ones Platinum/Inshore and also have a couple newer ASTeam. The difference in quality is obvious. But I only paid $16 for the newer ones so they are used as beat up rods or rods that I let other kids use.
