This is my very first fly fishing outing. Went to 2499 bridge first, fished for about hour and half, did not get a single bite. The water is still very muddy, and the wind was blowing from my right to left. I am a starter of fly fishing, so I did not know what to do with wind on the side. So I put down my fly rod, and picked up my spinner. Cast after cast with no result, I decided to pack every thing and move.

I got at old alton bridge around 8:30, picked up my fly rod, no spinner this time, went over, and look down to the creek, the water condition was much better, with a little bit running water. So hoop over the rocks, and fished from opposite shore line. My very first cast, fish on! It was such a surprise that I did not prepare for it, so I didn't set the hook, and the fish un-hooked itself.

I was kind fooling round, didn't know what I should do, cast after cast, I was not able to reach the distance and the spot I wanted my fly to land. For about an hour, I was lost. Luckily, a very nice gent. by the name of Alex showed up. He is very competent with fly fishing. So he showed me what to do. The rest is story. Caught 6 sandies, missed over 20 bites. I use 8# hook on my fly, it was natural to miss few bites with such small hook. Over all I am a very happy fresh fly fish man.

You may want to fiddle around with which of the URLs is used for a specific image. Not all of them will embed an image. But I can't recall which is which. It's been a while.

Great start! My first fish was a bull head catfish in the dead of winter. I think the fishing gods just wanted to mess with a beginner.
