Don't have a Texas fishing license at the moment just have a Lake Texoma license. Not sure if I want to get a Texas fishing license now, which will expire at the end of August. IMO, not worth buying if I don't Get a full year before expiration. Can anyone tell me why a Texas fishing can't expire a year after date of purchase? Why must it be purchase in August to get a full year before expiration? I don't get it. Am I missing something or is it just a money thing? And yes I know, I should of bought my license back in August if I wanted a full year.

As others have said, Texas has offered a Year-from-Purchase fishing license for a few years now.

The year from purchase license effectively gives you up to 13 months of fishing if you purchase it at the beginning of the month ... just inch your way back to the August 31 date over the next few years and then get the traditional license.
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

Yep, I buy the year to date every year. You do have to buy the all water license though to get it.

This was my first year back on the Sept - August cycle. Luckily I think I made at least one salt trip every year but one that I had my year from purchase licenses.

So l'll have to buy the "ALL" water license to get the year to date, but the fresh water only license is still August-August?

Ok, why is the fresh water only license only August to August? Looks like it is a money thing. You'll have to pay more to get the year to date option even though you'll most likely won't be doing any saltwater fishing. Awesome scam they got going.

It could be very confusing if they offered a separate year to purchase license for freshwater and saltwater if someone were to purchase both at separate times of the year (ie FW Mar-Feb, SW Jul-Jun).

I don't know that I would call something a scam just because I don't understand it. In Texas the fiscal year runs from Sept 1st to Aug 31st. I've never questioned the license dates and have always assumed it was for this reason. I could be wrong but it makes sense that a license would run for the same calendar months as the State's budget calendar. And I just bought one online Monday. If you don't know you can purchase online and carry the printed receipt till your copy arrives in the mail.

I might care more if it was like a 200 dollar license. I'm not sweating 47 bucks.
