Still in learning mode. Just wondering how many casts or how long you will throw a lure without catching anything until you switch to another presentation?

If I'm experimenting 10-15 casts and I change baits. If I'm already on a pattern, I may throw the same bait for hours without a bite.

If I am prefishing and go 20 minutes without a bite that is long enough to convince me there aren't enough fish in the area. I'll move and try somewhere else.

Usually depends on how confident I am that there are fish in an area. If I'm confident there are fish in the area and I'm trying to figure out what they're looking for, then 10-15 casts like fouz says. If I think I know what they should be biting and I'm looking to see if there's fish in the area, it can go on a lot longer than that without a bite.

So most likely, if there are fish in the area then no matter what you are throwing you should at least get bit once or twice? Because I have fished a pattern before, and nothing. But upon changing baits I have gotten bit.

I have thrown to the same stump for 10 mins. before getting a fish. sometimes you just gotta figure out what pizzes them off.
