First I posted up about the Navasoto near Fort Parker but all the sites were taken when we tried to reserve them. Then we settled on Lake Whitney. Plenty of space, no burn ban, seemed like a great idea. I had all my stuff packed on Thursday and was going to head down straight from work. Did some last minute checking on things and found out they had just put a burn ban on that included no charcoal. Did some scrambling and got the reservations fixed and went to Meridian State Park instead. They have burn ban too but allow charcoal.

I was kind of excited because I had read up on this lake. They've done some share lunker fry release there and I really hoped to get a fattie. Unfortunately I had planned on going to Whitney hunting for stiper and sand bass. I had some stuff but all my soft plastic was at home. I spent the morning out on the lake and only got two but one of them was this one.

Just a hair under 21". A personal best for me. A beautiful fish. Wished I'd taken a couple more pics.

Fish eat things. I'll put things in the water that fish like to eat. I'll attach these things to a hook, line, rod, and reel. How hard can this be?

That's a great park! Great fish too! There's a rumor that a tpwd guy shocked up a gigantic 20 pounder while doing a survey a few years back.. Course I've heard the same rumor about Purtis Creek and Mill Creek as well so I take it with a grain of salt! Still all I've ever managed was dinks there so congrats!

I've fished it a lot a few years back ( mother inlaw lives just down the road on lake Whitney ). Love this little lake, a lot of wind protection. I've caught my share of 5 lbers out of there but no 24" + fish. Have been broke off there a couple of times.

Great Lake to do a NTKBF tourney......... Hmmm. Tom?

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Yeah I heard that a year and a half ago they found two state records during one shock at Purtis and put them both back. Who knows.

Nice fish.

I still may head down and float the Navasota from the Confederate Reunion Ground toward the lake. Probably fish downstream till two-ish, then head back upriver kind of a day.
