Hey guys, I just bought myself a used Bass Cat with a 225 Optimax on it.
Had it about 6 weeks now, and use it every weekend.
Yesterday, I noticed when I started it up and stepped on the hot foot to rev
It up, it seemed to cut out, similar to a governor. The boat jumps on pad and
runs great. Also when I tried to rev it up it sounds like the alarm beeps for a second.
Does this sound normal? All my gauges are reading normal.
Like I said, it gets out of the hole, and runs on top end great.
Anyone ever experienced this?
Or am I just paranoid?

was it warmed up yet? have you checked the plugs for fouling, oil in the oil reservoir? not all that familiar with opti's but that is where I would start.

If the oil reservoir on the side of the engine is down, even a little, it can cause the intermittent beeps. Don't know about the cutting out.

Don't step on it in neutral to rev it up. It does not need it.

Its been several years since I've tried it but when I first got my 150 Opti I would rev it up in neutral when cold. As soon as I put it in reverse the alarm would go off. If I did not try to rev it up the alarm would not go off.

Also, how long since you've changed out your impeller. Does it have plenty of water pressure at idle? There may be something to that, maybe not.

Not trying to be a smart a$$ ,but if its fuel injected why would you rev it up, Plus each set up beeps stands for the warning its beeping for.. Some motors take 5 minutes to warm up until you can be able to run at full throttle. Do you know if its short set of short beeps, long beeps, or a constant beep. Gary Purdy is pretty smart with these type of problems and probably be able to help you out. I have been running late 70s and mid 80s outboards until a few weeks ago.

Anytime you have an alarm and especially when it is missing, please do not run it until you find out why. I see way to many motors blown that gave the owner warning and he or she didn't pay attention. Their is one posting here now that had a warning light going off but choose to ignore it. Get it to a shop so they can check the codes.

Stellar advice here.............And always,,,,,,,ALWAYS give your motor ample time to warm up before letting her fly. IMHO more damage to outboards is caused by not letting them warm up properly than just about anything else.

It was serviced before I bought it, which included a new impeller.
It has oil and its pissing a good stream of water.
I think to be safe, I will take it in to be looked at.
I was curious if it was designed to do this to keep from "taching" it out.
The beep is one short beep. Only in neutral.
I appreciate all of your input, and advice.
