217 anglers fished BASS Fed Top 6 this week.
Total # of limits caught
Day 1 = 22
Day 2 = 13
Day 3 = 24

Water was warming and fish were moving up to spawn. And the results are the same as they've been all yr. Also interesting to look at Big Bass
Day 1 = 6.53
Day 2 = 6.96
Day 3 = 6.22

Largest weight each day
Day 1 = 15.23 anchored by 6.53 Big Bass
Day 2 = 12.59
Day 3 = 13.77

Most of the fish are gone and females are few and far between. Hope the lake gets a good spawn this yr. Need to raise the water levels and keep there. Amistad is one of the toughest bass fishing lakes in the country.

"I don't believe the fish are still in the lake and that they're just out there suspended in the middle of nowhere. I've had to catch what few fish I have been finding this yr 40-60ft. And even those are sparse to locate. All I know is there has been a significant decline in Amistad, Choke, and Falcon ever since beginning of 2013. All at the same time and all have the common denominator. They've done shock tests recently on Falcon and numbers down more than 66%. I'd bet Amistad is even worse. When you send out 150-300 anglers on a lake you get a pretty good sampling of the fish population"

Very good information. I'n my mind, the fish population and size of years past simply do not exsist in the lake anymore.

I'm guessing 12-13lbs a day for 3 days will get it done.

BTW, good call on weights!

My best trip ever was Amistad. Circa 2007.

Just returned from the Top 6 and very disappointed in the fishing. I was there last May and June and absolutely killed them and they were big (I did practice catch and release, so it is not my fault current fishing is terrible wink ). The only females caught out of my boat the last 6 days were 35' or deeper. Buck bass were moving into the backs of steep rocky creeks/draws and could be caught on wacky worms or Senkos. I didn't go to Amistad to do that and paid the consequences in the tournament standings. I found some 10' tall green hydrilla in 23' of water in a few places and caught two fish out the 4 days I fished those spots. Dragging a CR in deep water produced a couple 4#er's. The wind on day 1 did not help either.

Fishing was tough and so were conditions. Constantly changed. I did see a 6 that moved into back of a creek end of Thurs. And heard some females were caught on beds Fri. All 3 days my limits consisted of males.

Those big fish are still there they are just waiting for some stable weather. It seems like there's a weekly cold front down there. Not going to say where on the lake but I know a guy on Wednesday that caught two 6's, an 8, and lost one he estimated over 10 out in a staging area on a c-rig. I'm interested to know what kind of fish were caught down there this past weekend after we left...

Well that guy must be really good. He caught em better on Wed than any other human being on the lake in 2014.

I was there last week for the top 6 too. I caught 2 each day (I should have had more, just rookie -like mistakes cost me.).

I saw a big girl setting up housekeeping on Monday and fished for her all three tournament days (Wed.- Fri.) when I got a good look at her on Thursday she was fat. I caught her on my first cast Friday. She dropped her eggs over night and was skinny and ended weighing about 5 1/2 pounds.

But, I saw something later Friday. In flats that were fish less all week I started to graph em on bushes in 6-12 feet of water. They had just moved up. They weren't biting though. The next two weeks could get good, I think.

Not saying it did not happen ... Kinda sounds like a fish story to me.. with no DATED pictures it's hard for some of us to believe.. hmmm
There were a couple of small tournaments this weekend after the Bass nation crew left.
Pretty much the same deal....IF you could catch 10 lbs a day for a multi day event.... Your probably going to win.. As far as Amistad goes for the last 15+ years--- no mater what time of year or how many cold fronts---That is PITYFULL !
Most fishermen I talked to.. including the top 6 guys.. were doing better in 8-15 ft range. I caught most of mine in 4 ft or less Sat. and Sunday.. But that was not saying much. other than there are fish on the bank as we speak...

There is no better way to sample a lake than larger tournament. Because you've got guys working everything from a foot deep to 60ft and everything in between with every technique in the book. The story has been consistent all year. Not gonna change for a few years. I can't imagine it getting any worse.

Judging by the TTZ on Canyon immediately following Top 6 on Amistad, yes I'd say Canyon is fishing slightly better than Amistad.

Compared to what this lake has been for the 22 years that I have fished it..
It was worse than horrible.

Well if there is a positive way to look at it. Fishing Amistad, Falcon, and Choke right now will force you to be a better fisherman if you can figure out how to catch limits. I'm pretty sure even Belton fishing better than amistad.
