my bud and myself chase crappie all the time
its a year round thing for us
sometimes we ketch things we aint after
we had heck getting this fish in the lil boat
it was a team effort to say the least
he hooked it ,fought it and I landed it
we chased it a bit with the boat
4 pound flouro crabon and a lil 5 foot ultra lite
he wouldn't hold it for a picture so I did
thunk you rough fish guys would like to see it
we think she was easily over 20 lbs ....
I am 6 foot and 200 ...man was she a whopper
back in the ole lake she went after a pic or 2
and as always

That's always a nice change of pace when you get to reel in a monster.

Hard to tell for sure, but I would agree that it is at least 20 pounds. Nice job.

I am sure that you are right Jesse. It's been so long since I have caught a buffalo, I need to get my eyes re-calibrated. lol

I don't know, feel free to correct me, but from my point of view you can always tell when you're into a 20lb+ fish when the belly starts to dip and get that low hanging look about it. When the fish's belly is fairly straight as in this pic, the fish (carp or buffalo) tends to be less than 20lbs in my experience.

i agree dmunsie , on the buffs i look at the girth before the length when i am at bankside to estimate weight and i am usaully within 2 lbs either way . on the carp i look at the size of the stomach to tell . I have seen so many fish ( not always mine lol ) in my life ( i have had the chance to share the bank with some dfw finest ) it comes pretty easy to judge weight on the bank . in a picture it can be tricky .

the girth was approximately 40 inches if that helps
i was afraid to hang her on the lil scales we carry
i knew it would rip out her gill and bleed her out
and we try not to kill nothing we aint gunna eat

No doubt she's 18lbs+ a little.
Seen they've been quite active lately over here at Somerville. A few that size been jumping like dolphins. Neat creatures, seem happy and care free.
Also in the shallows lately. Guessing it's that time of the year again.

I caught about 300 lbs of them at somerville in about an hour and a half last summer. They loves CJ's punch bait. They got so thick I had to move because they were crowding out the channel cats. There are loads of big carp and buffs in Somerville

My passion...........figuring out the fish. I don't care what I catch!
