Get some clousers and get into the sandbass run now ! That to me is the most fun on the fly we have all year actually in Texas. Oh forgot to mention chartreuse and white that is all.

Each late winter/early spring the sandbass will migrate up creeks and rivers to spawn. They all migrate out of the lakes they live in to spawn in the current.

The Sabine River above Toledo Bend is legendary. If we get enough water the fish come all the way to Longview and above, but that has been several years.

I know the Trinity River also has a large population. But I'm not familiar with the rivers and lakes in DFW.

Check the sandbass section of the forum. I know Lake Fork has been taken over by sandbass. Great place for a barge.

Welcome to Texas! I know that Bass Pro in Grapevine, a few minutes away from Lewisville, has fly tying classes every Wednesday and Saturday. You might want to call to check on the hours.

Awesome! I have been to Calgary, one the the most beautiful places on earth! Let me be one of many to welcome you to TX. I'll second the earlier comments on the Sand Bass Run. Need to get out there now and hits some creeks. If you need some advice on where to go, just let us know.

Welcome aboard...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Yes, Calgary is a really beautiful city and the fishing is awesome, I used to fish during week days in the bow river, just 10 min from home and weekends, I used to go to the back country or any alpine lake....is amazing. I'll PM you for more info!

Regular license Sept.1 - Aug.31, but you can buy them starting Aug.15 and they are good then. There is a year to date, but it will cost a few dollars more. Trout fees are already counted in the freshwater license. There is a saltwater license, too. If you plan on fishing the Coast, it's best to get the All Water combo.
If you hunt, there are more combos that combine both fishing and hunting.
You might want to check out the Texas Parks and Wildlife website.
