I'm curious too! I've heard nothing since a poor report from my friend that fished the Yegua last Thursday... If the fish are in Nails creek then they should be in the Yegua too!

Not without dragging over the muddy flat at the mouth of Nails and Yegua up from the boat ramp at Nails Creek Park or 1/4 mile drag down the trail from the parking lot at Newmans Bottom.

Thanks.
I doubt the girlfriend would appreciate that much work on her first yak fishing trip. Gonna keep it simple this weekend, and ease her into it. I'll get into the creeks when I've got some time by myself.

Looks like spring has been delayed a few weeks this year. No rush on the hot stuff anyways.

I'm well into the gardening season at the house but if I can get a pass from the wife I might be out there very early Saturday AM.

Look at that peak around sunset! Might need to trade the morning for the late afternoon! Got to be reel careful this weekend since my 23rd wedding anniversary is Sunday!

Wow that is a big decision Ben. However, if you take your wife to fishing on Sunday, you get two for the price of one...

I told my wife that thunderstorm is coming. However, she still would like to go the lake this Saturday. Oh well.

I went the couple times at Birch creek state park, I was skun, wading with road runner. However, there is a man fishing bottom with live bait got his limit. He caught about 10 in the first 30 minutes I was there.

May be I have some luck this weekends...

Oh by the way, I went to Nail creek state park last time, and I cannot find a place to fish from the bank. I did not try the creek...

Other then around rocky point Nails creek park has little to offer the bank fisherman inside the park proper when the lake is so low. However the creek is just a mile or less down the trail or a short walk in from the WMA parking lot on CR125. My nephew caught 15 whites late Friday afternoon and claimed to have missed several more from Nails creek. I'd like to go sometime soon but something always seems to pop up around here that keeps me close to the house.. The crappie are beginning to bite at lake bryan and it is a short trip for me to get a fishin' fix if I need one!

Is this lake Bryan an easy bank fishing lake? Wife wants to go fishing next weekend and taking her through the mud and woods at Somerville to creek fish won't be any fun for her. And not sure about other bank places on Somerville.

Any help on easy access spots for the wife to plop her behind in a chair and drop a line in the water is appreciated.

Is this lake overrun with college kids on the weekend?

My two nephews, three of their friends and I fished Nails creek Saturday afternoon until dark. Nails creek is barely flowing and has dropped a foot or more since the last good rain. We did catch nearly twenty whitebass between the six of us fishing from about 4pm until 7:30 or so.. The creek fishing will continue to decline as the water recedes and warms. I suspect without significant rain real soon the creek could turn sour and kill off whatever fish remain. Algae has begun to grow as a result of the high nutrient load and that ain't good. Too many warm cloudy days will reduce Oxygen levels and cause a fish kill. The Yegua might be a saving grace since it is bigger and flowing strong. I've not read or heard much of any fishing reports coming out of the Yegua and am not sure why. If the whitebass went up Nails creek they should be in the Yegua too and in bigger numbers. Strange year so far..

Yes there is plenty of bank access at Lake Bryan and yes it get crowded with all kind of people on weekend but more importantly it's not worth a trip up from Katy! I fish Lake Bryan for the spring crappie spawn and because it's close to home otherwise the fishing is pretty poor..
