Frankly I think most slip owners over react to people fishing their slips. But most have had enough bad experiences from the action of a few that sours them on anybody fishing around their boats and equipment.

There is a tremendous difference, as Diego pointed out in his post. You don't pay a monthly fee for that spot on the lake where you drop the brush pile. Nor is anybody tossing jig heads at your boat or equipment when they fish a brush pile you place in the water.

I'm sure if I started throwing a jig head at the jell coat of your boat you would quickly become upset. But people throw jig heads at slip owner boats on a regular basis and think nothing of doing it.

I didn't pay any tax's to build my lake. I wasn't around in 1929 and paid no tax's on the other to be built in 1959. lol Ok don't come back on this its humor. I know tax's are paid to maintain it even though my city don't spend squat on it for maintenance.

I have fished lots of docks but I showed respect and asked permission and dont guess Ive ever been told no. fished off of two today but wasn't good only caught a 4-5 lb drum on jig. of coarse this is little off topic because wasn't in boat shooting.

But part of your tax money after you started paying taxes were used to build or improve other lakes. It like education, you receive it as a child, then as an adult you pay for school taxes for the next generation to receive. rolfmao

sorry but the dock owners dont own the water around or under the dock
you can stand in water 1 inch deep under their dock and they cant do nothing but whine about it.

That Bass dont care if your in a Ranger boat or a metal bathtub with a trolling motor mounted to it

My point was that it's public water. Those folks knew it was public before they spent all that money building it. Just because they spend money renting a slip doesn't mean they have more of a right to the water under it than anyone else. They are paying for a convenient place to be able to fish and store their boat, not exclusive fishing rights. That being said, I've never personally had a problem with a slip owner. If there's someone on a dock, I don't fish it. Although they usually like to talk about how they're biting as I troll by. I don't shoot near dock lines because I know how hard it is to get a jig out of rope/net.

This was stated in very first post. I think this is why most dock owners say nothing

Try getting out of your boat and enter the water contained within the slips at Joe Pool Marina and you may find out differently. The game wardens there have stated that if you enter the slip waters you are trespassing and can be arrested. This has been discussed in another post. Thread, not post.

I fish boat docks since the owner's own the dock not the water beneath the dock. I would never leave my boat and set foot on another person dock or boat. That is trespassing and the owner has all the right to be upset at anyone who does this. I also would never fish a persons dock if they are using the dock. I would consider this rude. I have had folks scream and yell at me for fishing their dock. I kindly tell them the legal rules and typically move on. I did have who acted such a fool that I requested he call the game warden for some clarification of the rules. I provided him the phone number and joy out of proving him wrong. Common courtesy and common sense if the rule you need to follow.

No, I can be rather hard nosed when somebody damages my boat or steals my equipment. rolfmao

It's for the same reason I don't mind sharing my limited knowledge of fishing on Joe Pool Lake, including the structure I've found. I believe that if you help other people you will receive help when you need it. As I was helped by members when I first joined the forum and asked about Joe Pool Lake.

I believe that if people catch crappie from my slip area then more crappie will move in to replace them. So as long as my property is respected anybody is welcome to fish my slip.

You can't actually "dock shoot" from my marina, as the deck and walkways are on floats. So there isn't any space underneath the dock where you could "shoot" your lure. The only thing you can do is fish between the sides of the pontoon and walkways on either side of it.

You can't fish under it as I head it bow first into the slip. So the motor and gas tank blocks shooting under the pontoon itself.

But I have two pvc attractors I have placed at the end of the slip. Those can be fished from outside of the slip plus I can fish them from the rear deck of my pontoon.

So I placed them there for my convenience but they are easy for anybody to fish from a boat.

I have been doing something that's not much different than dock shooting. With lake around 15ft low Ive been marking all brush I see on gps! If and when lake comes up I should have around 50 piles + the one I built marked in 5-15 fow.
Does this mean I'm a hypocrite? LMBO

When you drop a brush pile into public water it is no longer your property but public property,. So you are not a hypocrite.

This past summer I spent a lot of time riding around in my pontoon using my trolling motor, to mark lake structure where I saw fish. I also marked some brush piles but I was also given the location of some brush piles when I first joined the forum. Plus the Corp placed a lot of brush piles into Joe Pool lake and these locations are marked on the lake map.

We are lucky in that Joe Pool is not very low on water yet. Give it a few years and we will be sharing the pain. frown

I own a dock on CCL and have condos and brushpiles out all over the lake.
When the lake is up to full pool crappie can occasionally be caught shooting it.
I have no problem with anyone wanting to fish my dock and if I see you shooting it, I'll probably walk down to shoot the bull and see how you are doing. Maybe even offer you a cup of coffee.
But, I also understand other owners don't feel this way. The few bad apples spoil it for the vast majority of good guys. And, if you were not a fisherman and had an expensive boat sitting in your dock and a fisherman pulled up and started shooting 1/16 oz lead jigs at it, how would you feel?
