Upgraded from my pelican pursuit this sunday to a jackson big rig. hoping to get on the water sometime this next weekend and try it out! only bought the yak and a paddle though so i might be lacking on some essential gear haha first question is what do you recommend as far as essential gear other than the yak and a paddle (and pfd of course)? also any preferences on a good fishing pfd? I've been eyeing the nrs chinook. Also, how do you guys lock your yaks when loaded in the truck? I carry it in a shortbed with a bed extender, so would a cable lock through the scuppers be the way to go or is there a better solution? My final question is do y'all do anything to support the rudder and keep it from shaking around when you haul it? sure seemed like the wind was whipping it around some on the way home...

Here's a few recommendations:

1. Anchor and/ or stake out stick.
2. Pliers
3. Crate
4. Yak attack flag and light
5. Ancho trolley
6. Depth finder (I like hummingbird)

And maybe a yak cart if you have to haul it a ways from your truck.

I like inflatable PDFs. Just more comfortable.

Anchor trolley and anchor/stake out stick are a must!

Oh yeah. Cable thru the scuppers is a good way to secure your yak.

I use a cable through suppers and a lock. Best one for me is at Walmart in trailer section, it will look hitch (Replaces pin in bed extender) and Kayak at the same time.

Oh and on rudder I use a bungee around everything, keeps it from getting wind whipped.

i prefer a stake out pole and drift sock over an anchor. havnt used my anchor in a year. need the anchor trolley for the sock or pole. milk crates are a must! you can attach rod holder net holders nav light holders. holders for everything! a good paddle is a must. used a base line paddle for 2 years and man i should have spent the money right off the bat. a good fish finder is worth its weight in gold. not an expensive one but a good one. i have the lowrance elite 4 dsi and love it. its being replaced by the hdi this year but no complaints about the dsi model. a good seat is nice. if your back and butt hurt it will cut down on the trips and length.

I got an aquabound manta ray carbon that feels pretty good so far but I haven't been able to paddle with it much. anchor/stakeout pole/drift sock is definitely the next thing on my list since I'm sure I'll probably have to combat the wind a good bit. I usually fly fish so hopefully I'll be in shallow enough water most of the time I won't need a fish finder for a while.
