Hi Guys,
I just moved from Calgary, AB Canada....great place for trout fishing, near to Canadian Rockies, kananaskis country and the forestry trunk road and yes, BLOODY Cold. I do just fly fishing and I was wondering what is my best bet to go fishing around? I live in Lewisville and of course I know trout fishing is not the first option around but I know there is places where i can go. I found something about LLELA, tons of info about broken bow and the guadalupe river.
Is there any small lake where I can take my pontoon boat? is there any other places where i can go trout fishing? eventually I'll find out about bass fishing...any local fishing books?
Thank yoy Guys! Oscar

Bunch of lakes in DFW, but none are worth much...
Head East.
Check out Lake Fork and some of the smaller waters East of there.
We don't have any trout besides the stocked ponds and a river or two down south. Too hot....wait till summer hits and you will see what I am talking about.
PM me if you need some information out East....if you don't mind traveling east.

The Blue River up near Tishomingo OK is another nice place. In the summer it is a fine place to wet wade for bass and bluegill. Texoma is a huge place but there are spots where a pontoon could work. Striped bass are fine sport.

Troutskies are in the Blue River in Tishomingo and Lower MOuntain Fork in Broken Bow. Stocking is done for the year on the LLELA and Guadalupe. LMF is the only water with 'wild' fish. Nothing compared to the Rockies, but its the best we have this far south.

There are many ponds and small lakes to fly fish from your pontoon tube or kayak. I only fly fish and target blue gill and lmb. The Spring run of Sand Bass is about to begin and that happens in feeder creeks into large lakes. I personally fish with 2 ad 3 weight fly rods. Tight lines and have fun.

Great tips guys! THANK YOU! are you part of any of the fly fishing clubs in the metroplex or somewhere else? I think it would be a good idea to get the feeling for the different species out here... small mouth bass, big mouth bass, blue guill, crapies (?)....where to start??????

There's Dallas Fly Fishers, Fort Worth Fly Fishers and Red River Fly Fishers. There are members of all of these twelve step programs clubs here on TFF. Your pontoon boat will be quite the asset for getting to some good fishing hereabouts.

Good...wow...I was actually thinking that I had to sell it...it's an outcast commander, but I'll keep it though! I'll make sure to go to the clubs. I hope they have tying sessions.

Tried the little red river in Arkansas over spring break. Went with a guide the first couple days and we tore the rainbows up, nothing of much size but it was definitely constant action, only caught one brown since the weather didn't cooperate. It probably doesn't compare to Canada, but hey at least its trout! haha Thats Heber Springs, AR by the way, not sure exactly how far from where you'll be but Its probably 5-6 hours

Check out the flats at Ray Roberts for carp in the late spring and summer. You will have a blast.

The Little Missouri, Murfreesboro, AR, about 2 1/2 hours from you?, has trout. Send me a message and I'll tell you more about it. Small little trout stream, but fun.
