Looking to buy a new truck for my everyday driver. Have a 4x4 to pull with. Looking at a small truck. Also maybe a full size regular cab with v6 5 speed. Wanting to know if anybody is getting 25 mpg out of there small trucks or if any new full size are getting that? probly going with a small truck 4cyl 5 speed. 90% of my driving is hwy.

I don't know of any trucks getting 25+. Definitely not with 4WD. I think some folks are getting around 20 mpg in the full size pickups if they drive like grandma. Maybe 1-2 mpg better in the light duty lineups.

If most of your driving is commuting, your best bet is to do what I did and buy a commuter car for daily driving and a beater pickup for boat towing. I spent $18k and got a brand new 2013 Altima rated for 38 mpg highway (I'm getting around 34-35 with 75/25 hwy/city driving) and you can easily get a beater towing truck for $5k.

I have a new 2014 quad ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.7 hemi.
Commute 35 miles each way. If I keep it under 70 I get 19.5-21 on regular
Fuel. And that's no bs.
New ram 1500 single cab with the v6 will get you 22-25 hwy. under 70
With mid grade fuel.
Ram is not second or third anymore guys.
You should rebook at them.

Tacoma 5 lugger in a 4 cyl. will get 25+. Might be hard to find around here. Dealers carry mostly double cab Prerunners. Might also get 25 in a Prerunner with smaller tires an 4 cyl.

Ya finding a 4cyl 5spd regular cab is tough.

Yeah it depends on what you're talking about. 25 mpg with 50/50 hwy/city driving or driving 75-80 like the highway speed limits are around here just isn't going to happen with anything, just less a pickup with 4WD. Driving 65 pure highway and forgetting 4x4, you can approach 25 in a lot of different vehicles. It's a pretty broad question.

FWIW, Tacomas are grossly overpriced for the features/capability. You're paying for the reliability and the name. On the other hand, resale is great. But the up-front price just wasn't palatable for me. I got a full-size Silverado that was much roomier and significantly more capable for the same price. Never had a problem and sold it 5 years later for almost what I paid for it.

I've heard the new Dodges are better. But I've had too many bad experiences to buy one. The Hemi is a good motor, but the problem with Dodge has never been the motors. The transmission and all the other little stuff is the issue. That being said, I'd definitely never own a Dodge that didn't have a Cummins in it.

Trannys are better than ever. The new Aison is even better than the Allison.
Ram has made too many improvements not to look.
I sold fords for years now I sell ram. I made the change because of ram has and is
Doing. There's a reason they have taken the JD Powers award away from Ford for two years
In a row.

I would think that you did not get 85% of purchase price at 4+ years and 87k miles but I have been wrong before. Resale on Tacoma's is unreal but they are not for everybody especially ones that need all the bells and whistles. If someone gave me a Platinum or King Ranch I would turn around and sell it. OP is looking for a small truck getting 25 MPG and I am guessing the only thing that really fits that bill is a Tacoma. Nissan might have something but not sure. I was considering Nissan when I bought my first Tacoma but they were about a week late responding to my inquiries.

I bought my Chevy used. Should've mentioned that.

Tacomas are great. You can't kill the darn things no matter how hard you try and that's why resale is insane. But you really pay for that reliability.

I have a Chevy S10 4 cyl, 25+ mpg all day.

4cyl Tacoma or Frontier will do well too but they are pricey.

Or you can find you an old Ranger too.

All those small trucks were very good, awesome trucks... just costs got too high on them new to the point you could buy a full size same price.

Find you a used one, don't worry about miles. I have an S10 pushing 200K runs like a champ, daily driver.
