We designed a rod SPECIFICALLY and exactly for the 10XD that is being made by Hook Spit Performance Rods down in League City.

Several of you TFF guys have ordered one and have given me the same awesome praise that I had for the rod when I got my first prototype just a few short months ago.

The latest modifications to it now have it labeled as a dual purpose rod for magnum crank baits, Alabama rig, and I think one more application, but I can tell you that I do not throw my Alabama rig on it. Just like the gentleman mentioned above, I prefer a broom stick for my Alabama rig.

I've caught two sure enough toads on the 10XD rod plus several smaller fish and it performs exactly like I dreamed it should when I was telling the guys at Hook Spit what I was looking for. You can get away with throwing a 10XD or other huge crank bait on a flipping stick but it's much MUCH less than perfect. The stiffer rod puts way to much pressure on the last 1' to 2' of line between your last rod guide and the bait. I was snapping my line after a few casts last year because my flipping stick wasn't giving enough at the end to allow the flex necessary to absorb some of the pressure when casting.

Also, when you hook a big fish on those huge baits, you want the rod to be able to play the fish and flex at the end at least a little bit. One of the other rods I was trying last year before we made the Hook Spit rod was a Redington musky rod. It was great for playing the fish because it had enough give at the tip. However, it was too forgiving at the end to really let you launch the bait a long way like usually needed with a crank bait.

With this new Hook Spit rod I literally am almost casting all the line off my Lew's BB1 reel. That longer cast keeps the bait in the strike zone much longer which results in a lot more fish caught. I just ordered a new BB2 with the wider spool in hopes that the extra line capacity will be better for when I throw that bait so far.

I have not thrown the Dobyns or Castaway rods mentioned above and I'm sure they are great rods. I'm not bashing them at all. But take it from someone that has been throwing a 10XD religiously for about a year now...we won a ton of money throwing it on Rayburn last year and I got very frustrated with all the different rods I was trying out looking for the perfect setup for that bait. The perfect rod wasn't made at that time and that's why I approached Hook Spit and sat down with their main rod builder and put this new rod into action. It is truly the only rod that I have thrown that even comes close to being able to both throw the bait properly and fight the big fish properly.

The rod sells for $179. I've been giving guys on the TTF my discount code when they order theirs and they are getting them for $143.20.

We now have a few built and in stock at the store in League City so you don't have to wait to have one built. However, I'll tell you those that are on the shelf now won't be there for long. Our intention was to stock pile them for the booth we are running at the block party during the Sealy Outdoors 30th Anniversary Big Bass Splash, but we are selling them so fast that I'm not sure there will be any left for that show. My discount code will not apply to rods purchased at that event so if you want the discount you can get one now.

Holler if you want the perfect 10XD rod or if you just have any questions about the company, the rod, the application, etc. I'd be glad to help any way I can.
