I am looking for the slowest falling jig or jig and trailer combo I can find... if it could fall close to as slow as a weightless plastic, that would be great.

Anyone got any tips on that?

Zero gravity jig by custom lures unlimited. 1/2 oz size, sinks 1 foot every 3 seconds. Damn good slow fall jig

+1 - I got a couple of those somewhere; but they do not have a weed guard on them. I found them at Walmart once upon a time.

Not even a 1/4 oz weighted jig will fall as slow as a weightless plastic........But if your looking for a jig profile and get the slowest fall rate possible then peg off a punch skirt and use a Damiki Air Craw on a straight shank flipping hook. I've done this from time to time when I'm looking for a slow fall rate.

Plastic head on that zero gravity, 1/2-3/8 size jig but weighs like 1/8 or less. Have to put trailer to add weight. Came off wrong when I wrote it before.

Curious and maybe stupid but why would you need one to fall almost weightless if it's meant to be fished on the bottom??

Rubber skirted jigs fall the slowest and have great secondary action..

Bulk up your trailers and their actions and you can get a lot of different rates of fall. I use a beaver style bait for a quicker decent and something like a rage craw or LFT hyper freak to slow it down when the water temps are warm enough for it.



Not stupid at all.. I can only speak for myself and what I've seen, but other than football head jigs.. The majority of my jig bites occur on the fall... Honing in of the subtle differences and having the right jig and pig combo can really make a big difference a lot of the time throughout the year... It could be the difference between a bite or two... Or it can be a night and day difference when the fishing is tough and you finally find that bite. Especially in the winter and early spring. Don't limit your jig presentation.

A ball headed finesse jig is a great way to gain confidence in jig fishing. Santone makes a great one with an extra strong gamakatsu hook to build confidence in jig fishing. Always buy your jigs with a quality hook as the first component. Move to the bigger weights and style from there..

Well I'll be honest I rarely if ever fish a jig. Maybe I'll pick one up and give it a shot. Didn't think about bites coming on the fall.

Google floating jig heads. Most are for Walleye fishing. Not very many with a spur to hold a skirt.

IMO, football jigs are ment to be dragged on the bottom. Flipping jigs and pitch/punching get 80-90% of their bites on the fall. Sometimes you want fast fall and other times slower. Reaction bite most of the time. But if you ever drop a crawfish in a tank he sinks really slowly straight down. IMO a jig kind of looks like a crawfish. And I have caught some rather large fish on jigs.

Put live rubber skirts on a 1/4oz swim jig. . .team it with an old school Uncle Josh's pork trailer. I take 2 or 3 bottles of uncle joshs pork and throw them in the sink in cold water to see which ones float the best, there's always some variance in them since its real pork. I pick out the best, most buoyant few and use them, the rest I experiment with. That jig will sink slower than you would believe.

+1 on the zero gravity jig. It's a pretty wild design. Put a zoom chunk on that thing and it falls about as slow as a weighless senko

This sounds like an awesome technique. I've thought about it but never really put any effort into trying it. But right now I would think a good bream colored skirt with a swimming Senko that would fall extremely slow sounds awesome. It would look like a bream easing down to get in a bed or whatever, it would just make them mad enough to kill it.
