During the past few months, I have been similar fish on my Humminbird, and I had
very little luck in getting them to bite (caught lots of live bait, so I don't
mind sinking it in the middle of them). Very few fish hooked, have found my hooks cleared.
Most of the fish caught were catfish (and those normally look a little different on the
Humminbird).
I can't help it, I love fishing in rain storms (hate blue bird skies) and try to avoid
the lightning.
I was testing out a new plastic/Eisenglass curtain for my boat's full enclosure (keeps
the help dry). I fished in that storm on Saturday (LOVED IT!!). Didn't launch until around 3:00pm.
It is amazing what you will see the striper do when it is raining. Water exploding all
around, and you can see it for miles (even in the rain).
Just look for that exposed structure, and with the water so low it is all over the lake, so look
for lots of it. I felt like I was small mouth bass fishing, except these were not small mouth bass, they were not even small.
Move slow, and expect that lower unit to hit some stumps, so use a trolling motor (and still expect that lower unit to hit some stumps until you raise it completely out of the water).
There wasn't too much lightning (saw a big flash after I got off the water), and the bite only
got better the harder it rained. While I still wish I had some live bait

(wasn't really expecting
to fish, until I saw the water exploding), all fish caught on darker colored plastics and
poppers.
I hope it rains this weekend.
