There will be very little difference between how the 4.8L and 5.3L handle towing a bass boat. Either will be more than adequate. But IMHO, the 5.3L is a superior engine and I'd opt for that unless someone was really selling the 4.8L cheap. In other words, I'd definitely prefer the 5.3L, but wouldn't automatically rule out a 4.8L truck if the deal was good and towing a bass boat is the most strain you're going to put on it.

Ask Hoosier Daddy about that. He got rid of his 5.3 GM and got into a 5.7 Tundra to pull his Skeeter...hes Piggy Happy!!

+1000 I have that exact setup and I love how my Tundra pulls! I definitely am not setting any records for fuel efficiency, but once you get past that, the Tundra 5.7 is a towing machine!

That's good to know, does yours drop out cylinders too when not needed?

It only does it when you're going down hill but I've had my truck since it had 36,000 miles and now I have 80,000 and no problems so far

I know it wasn't a smart call on my part but I figured it would be safer there than inside the shop. didn't even think of someone coming up in the middle of the shop yard and breaking into it in broad daylight. Next time I will definatley get a cashiers check. Makes me sick
