My redemption trip was a success. I had caught 22 before my poor old back said this is enough, time to go home. Left em biting. I did see one limit leave the river today and some who left with good stringers, but didn't limit out. I could not get a bite on any of my store bought tackle, so I tied on my personal hand tied bucktail jigs and the bite was on. I only have six hand tied jigs left, so I guess I'll tie a few more. I say that, but I'll probably wait till I run out before making up some new ones. But change is a good thing. A different rod & reel, plus a full change of baits to throw was good thing for me today. I even out fished the two guys with the fly rods.

I think Somerville is getting reel close to happening.. the lake is slowly climbing up and may be high enough for the whitebass to enter the creeks. A little more rain and it will surely be on! Not to steal the San Gab's thunder but I know none of you like the crowds that place draws in this time of year

It really hasn't been to bad. People are struggling to catch fish. It hasn't been a picnic that's for sure. People are coming and going all day. It's been real easy to fish around people. This year is producing some of the biggest whites I have ever seen in this river. One guy had one that measured 18-1/2 inches. If he had turned this in, he would have beaten the record for Grainger by an inch. But he didn't. He just has a picture of it on his phone. The whites this year look like Somerville whites. The males are very small, but the females are huge.

I checked out a few spots around Granger yesterday and one of them was the steps. I probably fished there for about 30-40 minutes with no bites. Saw a few people with some fish on the stringer.
Glad to hear youre back out catching the Whites Fishytx.

It is fun. How evwer, my mom is pretty sick right now and I'm taking her to ER in Georgetwon. I do not trust these small town hospitals and staff. I'm not real sure when I'll be back on the water because my mother comes first. As soon as I post this, I will be on my way to get her some much needed help. Until then, tight lines everyone.

Hope all goes well Fishytx..
I have been reading a lot about the "steps" on here. I'm planning on taking my brother there tomorrow to fish, I have never been there before. Is the Steps where hwy 95 crosses the river? Can we just park at the side of the road?
What has everyone been using? I was thinking of just trying a bunch of lures. any information helps. thanks guys.

Going east on hwy 29 from G-Town, you dead-end at hwy 95. turn north on 95 and go approx 1/4 mile (probably less). take the first street to the right (just past the bridge). go east on that rd about 1/2 mile (across the RR tracks) and look for all the cars. You are there. River minnows are good w/small hooks. Store bought shinners will work in a pinch. Or white and/or white & chartruse clouser flies if your fly fish. (the smaller the better), Or 1/16 white road runners. small spinners (1/16oz) etc. Chartruse and white works too. (Just my experiences.) Ask others around you. Most will love to tell you what they are using and want to give lessons too. LOL. I am ready to get down there myself. My wife is having a few medical issues lately. She loves that place but will have to look after her issues first. I'll be right there with her taking care of her 1st. But once she gets the green light... we are there. thank you all for the reports. keep em coming! tight lines all!
Shut up and fish!

It's all in the editing take lots of video and photos but use very little of it in the final product. Cut all the bad stuff and leave the good...
